Gave DS (13 months) some calpol before bed as he is teething badly at the moment. I used a nurofen syringe and stupidly let him chew on the syringe while I was doing his nappy.

Suddenly realised he was chewing weirdly and grabbed the syringe but it was too late - he had bitten off a bit of plastic about 8m by 2m.

I think he must have swallowed it as he drank milk afterwards so presumably it would have been washed down? Worrying about the jagged edges. Will he be ok?

Yes, he's my pfb and I've not dealt with babies swallowing stuff they shouldn't before - please can you reassure me he will be ok? Or should I take him to A&E (seems a bit extreme).

So your're up too!! Sorted out my keyboard problems and am sooo happy that all is well for you. Have a good w/e now, apart from nappy disection duty!!

Always up! I thought after the two hours of awake time from 8.30-10.30pm DS might sleep in. hahahahahahahahaha.

Thanks janajos - I kept going in to check on him last night and can't stop kissing him this morning. Silly mummy.

morning glad it all went well in the end.

Mine love Dear Zoo as well- think I know it off by heart now..

Glad it went alright. Anecdotally I get the impression that about 25% of all babies/toddlers will make a trip to A&E for the same reason before their 3rd birthday; most of those seem to be for swallowing pennies which is scarier if you think about it a considerable choking risk.

Thanks both

I am always telling DH off for leaving random coins lying around. Typical that it was on my watch that DS goes to A&E.

Soil? Pah, soil is for the soft.

I used to let youngest (before he was 1yo, I reckon, the privileges of being a 4th child!) wander around with stones in his mouth; it was impossible to keep them away from him and he never swallowed them, just liked slurping on them -- would yield them up to me when asked.

Stones? Stones?
Stones were nothing. When I were a kid, we used to walk around with household appliances in us mouths, we did.
