What is the safest children toothpaste? I took Aquafresh for Kids and found many parabens which are harmful especially if swallowed. It's scary since Children usually eat taste colourful toothpastes. hm..

As to fluorosis on teeth, I think the thing is that many of us who grew up in the '70s did not have fluoridated water and so the fluoride in the toothpaste was fine. But now with fluoridated water, toothpaste, fluoride treatments at the dentist, etc. many children are showing the unmistable staining on their teeth from too much fluride. It is something to consider.

Here is a fab website for SO many things, I get all my cleaning products in bulk from them, and so many other things too. They have a lovely little childrens section and do a few toothpastes.

Although, beware, I always end up spending a fortune on it!

Shaz - I had no fillings until I became pregnant, and then continuous vomiting decayed my teeth. I have about four/five fillings because of that; and none since.

What is important to remember is that bad teeth are not only ugly but also unhealthy, they can cause women to give birth prematurely; and are a strong risk factor in heart disease.

Agree though you can have too much fluoride. My children just have the fluoride in their toothpaste; I wouldn't give them the tablets as well.

This hysteria about children's toothpaste is ridiculous. Yes, too much fluoride is bad (i.e. in toothpaste AND in fluoridated water AND supplements) but using a fluoridated toothpaste by itself using a pea sized amount- no issu and arguably some real benefits.

I'd love to see some proper peer reviewed scientific research that those of us using standard brand children's toothpastes are damaging our children in some way- i.e. significantly increasing their risk of cancer. Unless you can provide that (I'm not interested in Facebook campaigns, anyone can set one up)please don't scaremonger in this way.

gecko was prescribed fouride tablets

Fayrazzled · 06/06/2010 08:27

And in that case, Trinity, I'm sure your healthcare professional whether doctor or dentist, thought they were necessary. This scaremongering by people who have NO healthcare qualifications whatsoever makes me so mad.

TrinityTrinityTrinity · 06/06/2010 08:28

yes fayrazzled

she has no enamel on her top teeth
the dentist felt she should have more flouride to help stop her teeth from crumbling away even more than they have
