Does anyone have any advice on this subject? I would think that at 8 children shouldn't have body odor, he is very young no were near pubity. He was born premature but has no other health concerns that I'm aware of.

Please advise if you can.

Thank you

Hi, had the same problem with my DS hes 9 the doctor said the earliest age for the onset of puberty is 8. He said it was perfectly normal prebubescent hormone changes and there maybe no other changes for a long time. Hope that helps

no, just make him wash more often

It's not uncommon for children to being prepubescent changes at eight - despite the fact that he was premature, his body will be gearing up for adolescence, and beginning to sweat is one of the first changes which happens to children.

The doctor will only give you advice on washing etc. as children are only recorded as having suffered 'precocious puberty' if under the age of eight.

You should start to teach him about washing.

My dd has been using deodorant since just after her 9th birthday, and tbh some of her little friends could do with using it too on warm days.

We got my ds1 some nice shower gel and a small nondescript-smelling deodorant last summer when he was 8 and a half, as he was starting to smell rather 'warm' on hot days and after sports. He enjoys using them and says that he feels "a bit grown up" (and smells much nicer too these days!) He has had some positive comments from friends and family that he always "smells clean" - unfortunately most of his friends are pretty much the opposite...

nope. hygiene and deodorant.

dd1 has showered in the morning and used doedorant since 8. tbh i was a bit shocked too, but quite a lot of girls in her last school were starting their periods at 9, so i've had to adjust my expectations of puberty...

it was really obvious if she'd missed a shower in favour of a quick wipe with a flannel. she has to carry spare deodorant in her bag as frequently she goes straight to (sporty) after-school activities, and there's only so much one morning application of deodorant can cope with...

if it helps, it did calm down after a year of full on 'omg' in enclosed spaces...

dd1 had body odour for the first time at 4

I posted here, worried about precocious puberty, and was reassured - she had, and still has, no other signs. She's 6.5 now, and it did calm down hugely after the first year - last year, she had no odour at all, then just recently, with warmer weather, we've gone back to the deodorant.

She uses a 'natural' one, and its completely adequate at the moment
