Severe stomach pains and dodgy tummy in 5 year old - any ideas

DD who is almost 5 has recently had a few episodes of severe stomach pains and I'm beginning to wonder if there is a deeper cause for this as it doesn't seem to be bug related. The episodes last for a few days (this time since Friday lunchtime) but are not constant over this time ie she'll be fine for a few hours and then suddenly crying in pain saying her tummy is sore. Linked to this she will have not 100% normal poos, but not real diarrhoea IYKWIM. She doesn't have a temp and the rest of us are fine. She's had tests for urine infections a couple of times but always clear, and no sugar in urine either. I'm suspecting food issue/IBS, but she has had a fairly constant diet for ages and has gluten every day, so I can't see it being gluten. She doesn't tend to eat sweets other than chocolate, but had 2 Percy pigs on Thursday - not sure if reaction to this would be enough to cause 4 days of sore tummy. Any ideas or suggestions would be great as when we've gone to GP they've not really been much help just saying as long as she is eating/drinking episodes of upset tum for up to a week are not concerning.

Sorry, not much I can suggest except could she be constipated?

Hi, if you think it may be food related it really is worth having tests.
Just wanted to say as the symptoms sound similar to my DS2. He had the following symptoms: tummy pain, not properly formed stools ranging to diarrhoea with an acrid smell, bloated tummy, wind, pale faces with dark circles, After suffering for a year he was diagnosed Coeliac Disease.
It can develop at any time even if your diet has not changed recently.
Hope you find out the problem.

Thanks - DH ended up taking her to GP yesterday as she was in so much pain, so they are now at least doing a stool sample as a first test. Booner - she has always had a bloated tummy although stick thin and does have dreadful wind. Hope it's not this but at least manageable I suppose with diet.

Hi Birdy,my youngest was stick thin, I really hope it's not this as well and I don't want to try and diagnose your DD but really would encourage you to ask for the blood test for Coeliac Disease. Both my boys were diagnosed with it though my eldest didn't have any symptoms. It is totally controllable through diet and my youngest is so very fit and well compared to a year ago. He was vastly improved within a week of going on a gluten free. Please don't cut anything out of her diet until you've had all the tests. Good luck.

Thanks Booner - it was one of the things at the back of my mind when I first posted TBH but I didn't want to preempt people's views - we'll see what the stool sample comes back with first. She was up for a hour during the night crying in pain last night - we're all getting very tired. I can't believe it is just a bug causing so much pain.

I have a friend with Coeliac Disease and it seems like such a big thing for her to manage but I know lots of people do, and she wasn't diagnosed until adulthood which I suppose makes a difference too.
