she's 4yo btw, and I'm getting concerned. Every time we let her have sips of boiled water she's sick, so there's been nothing in her since lunchtime on weds
(Is it time to panic yet?)

don't panic, but I would call NHS direct if you are in the UK.

That is a long time without much fluids...I would be concerned about dehydration. Is she alert? (well, during the day at least)

TanteRose · 14/05/2010 01:46

also, is she weeing?

x-posts Screaming!

When you give her water, give her a table spoon every five minutes then she will not vomit. Try camomile tea or even better a mint tea. Give her one spoon of baby rice made with cooked water, give her saltines or white rice crackers (no salt, no sugar), crackers like Jackobs. Also, buy at the supermarket or Boots something to prevent her dehidrating. It has different flavours. Again give a spoon or two every five min. If you give more she will vomit.

SOunds like gastroenteritis but better check it with your GP.

How is she MrsShrek?

MrsShrekTheThird · 14/05/2010 18:22

thanks all - it was verrrry late when I came back, sorry! I've got diaoralyte (sp?) and we're doing what Octavia suggested and giving her a small amount at a time, on a spoon or in a cup from her dolls teaset(!!). She's done a couple of wees a day - far from normal but at least she's not appearing to be dehydrated, I've checked her skin and stuff and she appears OK.
Possibly not desperately serious, It's just worrying!

Gastro bugs are bloody awful. Worry only about hydration and small sips as you've found, evenly spaced are best.

She'll bounce back so quickly but it's miserable when it's happening.

Any deterioration, high fever etc, then seek further help but gastroenteritis is fairly self-limiting otherwise.

Horrid isn't it? And frightening, especially in the wee small hours.
