Bumpy pavements - shaken baby?

I'm sure this is an embarrassing question - and I'm sure if we have baby number 2 I'll laugh at myself for being so paranoid about the PFB... but... where I live a lot of the pavements are SO bumpy that DD (3 weeks old) gets rattled around in her pram so badly that I've started to worry I'm doing the same kind of damage as shaking a baby would do. I think I just need someone to tell me to stop worrying...

Don't worry

stop worrying

a baby being shaken by being pushed over bumpy ground is totally different from being shaken deliberately by someone. the force genereated by someone picking up and shaking a baby backwards and forwards is totally different to some bumps on the pavement

if you are worried, why not use a sling or carry her over the really bumpy bits?

nowwearefour · 12/05/2010 20:56

the bumpy bits are the best way of getting your dd to sleep in the buggy! i used to seek them out! but it is a sign you are going to be a v v v good mum to be so concerned!

CucumberInMyBra · 12/05/2010 20:57

Thank you! That's all I needed to hear!

Don't worry! I remember having absolutely the same thought with my PFB. I pushed her over some cobbles and was then terrified that I had done her some permanent damage! She will be fine

mrsjuan · 12/05/2010 21:00

I panicked about this no end with DD - I used one of those head huggers from the bouncy chair and tucked her in with a blanket to prevent it a bit.

SpeedyMackechnie · 12/05/2010 21:03

LOL, you poor thing.

At least you've come on here for some common sense instead of doing what I did - I practically CARRIED my pram over bumpy pavements and cobbles until I got a grip of myself

How other parents must have laughed...

ChunkyBrewster · 12/05/2010 21:08

I was the exact same - as well as being certain that all cars on the road were waiting just bidding their time to come run over my PFB in her pram. I practically use to set up a police barricade and request an escort each time I had to cross the road.

GOod luck with your new baby.

Don't worry. She will be fine.

I was the opposite, DD used to go to sleep when I went over the cobblestones. I can remember walking up and down the high street hoping she would sleep so I could go for a coffee.

CucumberInMyBra · 13/05/2010 10:40

Thanks again everyone for your reassurance - I'm off to find some cobblestones to induce sleep!
