DD is being fitted for foot support things next week.

What sort of shoes is she going to need to wear?

My DS has been wearing orthotics for a couple of years now, he's nearly 4. They seem to fit OK in Clarks shoes. The specialist has never said that they aren't OK.

Initially we had to get ankle supporting boots for him and the only boots I could find to fit them in were Timberland which was a bit expensive but if she's OK with shoes then Clarks or Startrite will prob be OK.

problem is DD is 14 and wouldn't be seen dead, on a dark night, with a bag over her headin clarks or startright.

Oh. I don't think they'll work in Uggs, pumps or strappy sandals! They need to be quite 'supportive'.

Depends on the type of afo's.

My dd2 has knee-high afo's and wears lace-up pumps over them - like these type of thing.

soome afo's are bulky, so hard to fit shoes over. You may need to upsize.

EC, will they be splints?
If so, the key thing is shoes which open wide right down to the front - as the ones that Meltedmar linked o do. A bit of an ankle is good. Many trainers work This style would work whereas this might not because the sides don't open up right down to the frnt. Many people find that Kickers are OK. Imagine getting your foot into a shoe wearing rigid wellies - you need to be able to open it right up to get it in. The orthotist will be able to advise and will understand teenage shoe issues!!

i have no idea what sort, whether foot, ankle or knee high ones.
if she can wear converse type things it will be fine.

If the supports go up the ankle then it doesn't matter what the shoes do.

Ask for advice at the appointment.

Good luck!
