I googled
I phoned
She offered the appointment - I accepted
We are seeing her tomorrow

Now I just need to get time off work

So much for needing a referral for a second opinion

Good stuff!! Sometimes I feel it's best just to bypass the NHS and do what you think is right yourself. I hope you get the help you need at your appt. I'm considering doing something similar for my DS re. his plagio (I just started a thread), but sadly at the mo. I don't know where to begin/who to phone.

Good luck for tomorrow!

coppertop · 11/05/2010 13:08

Good luck with the appointment (and getting time off work). Fingers crossed for you that they will be able to help your dd.

binjibaghi · 11/05/2010 13:11

What is a behavioural optometrist ???

Katymac · 11/05/2010 14:20

here

& it will all be done on the NHS anyway - as she should have been referred here anyway

well done, katymac

Katymac · 11/05/2010 16:25

I am so relieved to be doing something

It doesn't matter if it is the right thing

I just need to be doing it

OP posts:
bumpybecky · 11/05/2010 16:32

well done hope they can help your dd

Katymac · 11/05/2010 16:35

What I want to know is why we weren't referred to her sooner

Having a wobble again - because I don't know what to expect

lovely74 · 11/05/2010 21:35

I'm curious as I've never heard of a behavioural optomotrist before. Looking at the link I'm surprised I haven't as I'm an Occ. Therapist working with people with neurological conditions and often work on improving visual processing skills. Do you mind me asking what issues your DS has to need one? I'm genuinely interested and wonder if I've missed out on calling on their services before.

Good luck with the apt

DD stopped seeing about 10 weeks ago

Currently DD describes her vision as being like looking through the bathroom window (textured glass) she can see shapes and light & dark but still no colour, she can also see movement.

It's been hell

Katymac · 11/05/2010 22:04

Sorry that was very blunt - I didn't mean to be rude

There are lots of threads over the last 10 weeks about it

OP posts:
lovely74 · 12/05/2010 16:42

Thanks for your reply and I hope your DD is ok

TotalChaos · 12/05/2010 16:44

How did it go?

Katymac · 12/05/2010 18:59

It went really well

We have a PROPER Diagnosis

One I understand, and can agree with

She has Streff Syndrome

At least that was what I was going to post - but I just got a phone call from the Optometrist - she is really unhappy about DD not having any scans or blood tests & can she phone my GP

I am gutted

OP posts:
wb · 12/05/2010 20:25

Don't be gutted. All she is saying is that, while she is pretty sure what is going on, she needs to be 100% sure. It is progress (and heaven knows you and your dd deserve some of that).

IMoveTheStars · 12/05/2010 20:29

Katymac - was lurking on some of your other threads. It's excellent that your DD has finally been seen, and it could be a positive thing that she's calling your GP to ask about scans and tests - Why your GP didn't refer your DD for these in the first place is absolutely beyond me.

Good luck with the ongoing tests etc x

Katymac · 12/05/2010 21:10

TBH I don't even know what a Behavioural Optometrist is

I'm so unhappy

& not really psychological - probably a physical response to all the illnesses she has been having - triggered by the pain when she had pleurisy

Well you should be insanely proud of yourself for being proactive enough to find an alternative route. But yes, gutting that you've wasted all this time and effort and been fobbed off.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/05/2010 21:32

Oh bloody well done Katy.

Hope you get some proper answers now - and at least she's being thorough by getting the scans and stuff done. I suggest you complain when the dust has settled.

Katymac · 12/05/2010 21:32

I was always unsure about the psychological aspect - it just didn't fit - well at least not with my view of my daughter (or that of an old teacher, my network co-ordinator or half a dozen childcare professionals she knows)

OP posts:
Katymac · 13/05/2010 22:01

Well she emailed to to say she spoke to my GP today & faxed her some info

My GP should be getting in touch

But she just spoke to one of the practise GP's & I reckon we will get nothing from the surgery
