DS is one and he has had an eczema flare up - it's not usually too bad, so I feel crap to come on here and say it is upsetting me so much - and he loves nothing better than scratching. The scratches are much worse than the eczema itself.

I use Cetraben in the bath and as cream. Recently tried Aveeno cream, but that didn't help at all. He seems to scratch as his skin is dry, but nothing seems to actually moisturise him. It's mainly his thighs so they are easy to access for a good scratch during nappy changing.

I hate watching him scratch and hearing it!

He has a dairy-free diet and have only recently introduced eggs. However, I think the dryness at the moment is perhaps due to the changes in weather and temp in the house.

All suggestions please welcome as it is getting me down unnecesarily.

I don't know but my Ds2 is 18 momths and is scratching loads too - awaiting replies with interest!

I too have tried Cetraben and Aveeno with no great success. He itches his tummy when he gets the chance. I keep him in a body suit so he can only get to it at nappy changes and bath times but even then he can make a right mess of his tummy in a very short time.

It might be the pollen count - sometimes that can make them itchy the summer before they actually get hayfever.

Have you ever tried giving him antihistamine (Piriton)? This will calm the itching, and stop him scratching.

I hope he's feeling better soon!

Just how bad is Johnsons Baby Oil? Have never used, but it seems like an oil is what is needed yet everyone seems to just say it should be avoided at all costs.

We have Epaderm on prescription, with hydrocortisone for when it's really bad. I use Epaderm as a shampoo and body wash too. Seems to work quite well for my Ds (7.5m), though it does tend to flare up if he's unwell or teething.

Johnsons is far too highly perfumed. It can really sting on fresh scratches, better to speak to your hv or get your doc to prescribe a really good emolient.
