Blue lips

My nearly 3yo dd's lips were blue for a short time today - maybe an hour?

She looked like she had been eating a blue ice lolly!

This has only happened whenshe's been v cold, like in an outdoor pool as a baby. Her pulse was regular.

I am worried that something could be wrong with her heart or circulatory system.

Is this worth seeing her gp?

I would, just to get her checked out- she is only little and it doesn't hurt to get them checked.

Was she cold today when it happened? What was she doing?

chibi · 04/05/2010 19:26

No, it was indoors and after lunch. She didn't seem poorly at all, just like her normal self iyswim.

There was a thread about this a while ago all the posters said their DD/DS was thin.

I took my dd to the GP about this when she was 3-ish. Doc said she was absolutely fine but I was right to get it checked out. It is a symptom of a possible heart condition, BUT this is nearly always accompanied by other symptoms e.g. (from what I can remember) getting out of breath easily, being underweight, not very good immune system.

So I'd get her checked for your own peace of mind, but it sounds like it's not something to worry about.

My daughter was a bit blue when born and was rushed to SCBU. When she was a baby/toddler her hands, feet and lips turned blue whenever she had a fever. It frightened the sh** out of me, but the GP reassured me that nothing was wrong with her heart.

She is 12 now, and is fine

My ds gets this, has from a baby. Can't take him swimming because lips turn blue, hands and feet look grey. He is also thin and recently had an ECG done (completely unrelated thing) and his heart was absolutely normal.

My mother reminded me that my maternal grandmother always seemed to have purple lips so could be hereditary?

See your GP if worried but I believe it's fairly common

Thanks I think I will get her checked out just in case

I've noticed DS (2) gets this sometimes usually after breakfast.
I realised the other day it's when he has cold milk on cereal plus a cup of cold milk as a drink. Doesn't happen when he has porridge (i.e. hot breakfast) and has stopped since I started heating the milk for weetabix!
