DS1 went to docs on friday with excema patch which has flared up really badly, hes scratched till he bleeds at night. Think its been aggrivated by his new school trousers. Anyway last night he has had a hideous night sleep and has been basically thrashing about in bed screaming and scratching. He has canesten with hydrocortizone cream, ive given him calpol and piriton.....any suggestions about how else to treat this or at least to help him with the itching would be very much appreciated!! Because Ive been up watching monsters inc with him since half five this morning which is an experience I dont watn to repeat tomorrow...

oh no poor boy

Could you visit pharmacy today and see if tehre's anythign else

Ibuprofen?

PrettyCandles · 02/05/2010 06:36

Can you get to a pharmacy? There are several products available which are anti-itching. Some contain local anaesthetic and some contain chemicals that reduce the itching. Given the fact that your ds is aleardy getting treatment, I thin it wd be a good idea to talk to a pharmacist before adding anything else to his skin.

Hope he feels better soon - and you get more sleep!

Great minds, prettycandles

thanks for both your messages, thats a good Idea! He is just in that itch scratch cycle, it seems so painful, now hes eating his rice crispies infront of the telly its calmed down, but at night its horrendous. Right, I will go down to the pharmacy, good plan.

In the meantime would porridge oats in the bath help? Good for chicken pox itching

geraldinetheluckygoat · 02/05/2010 09:05

oh thats a good idea too, I have done that to soothe his eczema in the past, I will give that a go. I wondered about tea tree oil in the bath, as Ive found that works well for thrush (doc thinks that he has thrush caused by all the scratching)
