fish oil and behaviour - any recommendations?

I have just started DD (6) on fish oil supplements as I am worried about her behaviour. She seems to exhibit symptoms of ADHD but I hate labels and wanted to approach things myself first. We are trying some behavioural strategies out, but I read that fish oils are also effective. I have got the Boots mulitvitamin and omega syrup, I plumbed for this one as the fish oil content seemed to be the highest.

Any advice please? Does it really work?

Make sure food colourings are also eliminated. fish oils apparently are good.

Agree about food colourings, in fact any additives. Was just spellchecking ds's GCSE chemistry coursework on additives and their effect on children's behaviour and it's quite alarming.

Had thought about doing a food diary to check for intolerances. We have very few processed foods at home and try to steer clear of them, but I know they get biscuits at school. She can be such a lovely sweet girl, but then at times she's like a wild animal and I'm worried for her .

My son has IQ fish oil tablets on prescription. I monitor carefully what he eats and avoid e numbers and colourings etc and aspartame in drinks.

lottie - have you noticed any difference since he has been on the fish oil? DD has been on it for a week now, and apart from her no longer gagging when she takes it, I haven't yet noticed any changes.

I think they say it takes a few weeks to notice any difference! Hope she gets used to taking them!!

zinc zinc zinc

works wonders

Am with mmrsceptic-extra zinc and magnesium can make a huge difference in ADHD-studies done supplementing with magnesium show big improvements.
I supplement DS (5 with dyspraxia and ASD and huge concentration issues) with a multimineral and multi vit from Kirkmans (google nutricentre you shd find it). Its the brand recommended in ADHD I think as high Mg and Zinc.
I also use fish oils-I use Eskimo oil-free form preservatives...huge difference in behaviour after less than a week-some children seem to get hyperactive with omega 6 so I just use omega 3 without omega 6 but thats just trial and error tbh. You need higher amount of EPA than DHA so check the bottle. Would recommend eskimo-we tried eye q but I think the omega 6 made DS more hyper-much better on just omega 3 but its all very individua.

Sorry-I also cut out aspartame-again a noticeable difference quite rapidly
