DD came home from school last Monday after having been sick in the afternoon. She then vomited through most of Monday night, Tuesday, Tuesday night and Wednesday. She also had really bad pains in her stomach.

Took her to the GP on Wednesday and he said it was just a bug and just to make sure she drank plenty of fluids/dioralyte etc.

She seemed to perk up a bit on Thursday but was still very tired, felt sick and dizzy. She vomited again Friday morning then lay on the sofa all day. On Saturday she had some toast, a yoghurt and some custard (what she asked for!) and managed to keep it all down. Then yesterday she had some sunday dinner (mashed potato, yorkshire pud and carrots) and seemed to be ok during the afternoon. She then went in the bath last night and vomited again. This time there red lumps in the vomit - although she had been eating red grapes in the afternoon so it could have been those.

Should I take her back to the GP today do you think? Or does it just sound like a bug and I should hang on a few days?

DD is never ill, I cant even remember the last time she vomited! So when she's ill like this I get really worried!

Can you get a telephone consult with your gp?

TequilaMockinBird · 26/04/2010 08:33

Never thought of that kitten, will give them a ring now and ask them! Thankyou

Do 'bugs' really last this long? I've only ever had a 24 hour type bug, never known anything like this!

Sometimes they do unfortunately, which is utterly and totally rotten. good luck with phone call.

GP is ringing me between 12 and 2 today. She said she didnt want to go back to the doctors today and that she just feels a bit light headed and tired. That's probably lack of food though I think. Fingers crossed!

excellent
problem is I think that low bloodsugar makes you nauseous so the end of a tummy bug can be a bit of a vicious circle.

Well the GP rang yesterday afternoon and said he wanted to see her after surgery last night (7.30pm).

She woke up around 3pm and asked for a bowl of cereal. She seemed perkier so I gave it to her. She then went on to eat 2 bags of crisps and a chicken sandwich - and then asked could we go out for tea! Soooooo, I cancelled the GP appointment and we went out and she ate Carbonara! Sod's Law or a miracle recovery, who knows!

She's off to school today, panic over!

Thanks for your advice though, I was really getting worried about her!
