Has this happened to anyone else? dd still has all her milk teeth (she's 7 in July), but one at the bottom has been wobbly for a while. It's hanging in there though! This morning I noticed that her big tooth is coming through behind it. I'll need to take her to the dentist, she is not happy. She keeps wobbling the baby tooth with her tongue and finger, but the thing won't come out yet!!

This happened to my dd1. Both her top two incisors came through, pushing the milk incisors out at almost a right angle. It looked really odd and the dentist said she would have to remove the baby teeth. Fortunately just before her appointment, dd1 tripped over in the snow and both milk teeth fell out and she spent ages searching in the snow for the teeth for the tooth fairy. They were worth about a pound each.

thanks belgo, I must look to see if her other front bottom tooth is the same! I had noticed a bigger gap between the front bottom teeth and the ones next to them, but I just assumed it was because they were wobbly. I should encourage dd to wobble her tooth as much as poss!!

This happened to one of DS's teeth - I didn't realise it for a bit but when he said he had a wobbly tooth I realised the other one was coming through.

Was a bit worried it would be wonky and it was at first but it came out a few months ago now and looks in a similar position to its neighbour which grew in the normal manner.

I think we saw the dentist then for a checkup and he said that if it didn't come out "soon" that it could be removed but it did.

Hello, my dd (now 12) had this with all the front teeth.

When the first adult tooth appeared behind the milk tooth, I was concerned and went to the dentist. As the adult tooth was immediately behind the milk tooth and lying straight, she was not worried and said it was quite common for this to happen.

The same thing then happened with the next few teeth. The good thing is, she never had a "gappy" smile

ah good I'm glad all turned out ok! I didn't realise this was so common (dd is my only, and this hasn't happened to friends' children). I'll make dd a dentist appt anyway, and see what he says. I've just had another look and suspect the same might be happening with the other bottom tooth, although that milk tooth isn't even loose yet!

forget to say, it does seem that dd1 will nedd a brace at some point but I don't think that's anything much to worry about. Good to get teeth sorted out in childhood rather then leaving them.

This keeps happpening with my DD too...she's only just five but has lost two teeth already. Both times the adult tooth had already emerged behind the milk.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 24/04/2010 19:48

DS1 had two teeth coming through before the baby teeth had gone. It turned out okay.

DD had several baby teeth behind her new teeth. They fell out with no problems.

This happened to my dd. My dentist told me that it is very common. She said that if the adult tooth is about half way out and the milk tooth is still there, then it can cause a problem and might need to be removed. The adult tooth needs to move forward into the space left by the milk tooth.
Luckily my dd's tooth fell out when she was brushing her teeth so we didn't need to have it pulled.

This happened to ds too. I went into the dentist & they said it's very common. If the tooth doesn't come out after a long while (I dunno what that is, a month maybe?) then it was worth coming back, but in the meantime to encourage wiggling. They straightened up & moved into place amazingly quickly

My DS (7.8) is having 4 teeth out on Friday under GA His bottom 2 teeth are fully through and no sign of the baby ones moving and he has an abcess in his top gum because his baby teeth have wore down to the nerve. No sign of these coming through though so should be fun for a few weeks

Acanthus · 25/04/2010 18:58

DS2 had this with his two front teeth. The baby teeth fell out ok. One has now moved into line, the other is still a bit back but may well move when the jaw grows a bit and there is more space for it, so the dentist says. The only thing to watch out for is cleaning - you might need some of the TiPi interdental brushes.
