Does this sound like sunburn?

DD is 9 months old. I thought she hadn't been in the sun much but her hands are definitely way darker than her arms so she must have caught the sun!

2 things worry me - firstly about 3 weeks ago she got a tiny little 'splatter' mark on her forehead (4 or 5 tiny 'droplets'), like a birth mark, but I hadn't seen it before. Do birthmarks ever appear this late on?

Secondly, on Sunday we were in the park and she had her socks off for a few hours - now her shins have a web of tiny scabs on them. She has quite dry skin so I think it may be wind etc; or unrelated to the exposure; but I do worry if it's the sun? At the time I thought a few hours in the UK in April were nothing to worry about.

Thanks to all who have read this far, particularly if you have any advice

I'm sorry, I can't help. Bumping so someone else can come along with more wisdom.

Sounds like it could be a heat rash rather than sun burn (I'm sure a medical person will come along soon!)

But I'm afraid that very young children can burn in April, particularly if they are out when the sun is strongest. If your DD has sensitive skin, I'd invest in some loose light coloured long sleeved tops and trousers/dungarees and a big floppy hat so that you can limit the amount of suncream she needs.

good name btw - hopefully spooks and the delicious lucas will be back soon!

Babies can definitely burn easily in April... ds1 was 9 months old when he got so badly burned from 20 mins in the sun the entire right side of his face blistered and he had to have steroid cream

Worst thing was it wasn't even that I didn't know he needed sunscream... we'd gone swimming and i forgot to put it in the swimming bad and he got burned on the walk home.

He's almost 4 now and although still more sensitive to the sun than the other kids he doesn't react as badly anymore.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like the legs probably are sunburn then It never went red, but then maybe babies don't necessarily.

acebaby - thanks I assume there will be more Spooks in the autumn, it seems to be the BBC's way of making up for the end of summer
