11-year-old daughter's increased appetite

Having been pretty small and skinny for most of her life my daughter, 11.6, has developed the appetite of a small horse in the last year. She looks rounder.

Is this a fuelling process for a growth spurt?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Hi Abride, i have a 9 year old son who eats like a horse i can't ever seem to fill him. He is very sporty and does some kind of sport most nights. I have found that he will put on some chub and then shoot up!!!! can't keep up with his school trousers lol. I wouldn't worry about it i think it is all part of growing up

Thanks, lisa.

Definitely likely to be a growth spurt on the horizon - puberty takes a lot of energy (periods started yet?). My nearly 10 year-old son also has phases where he can't get enough to eat, followed by phases where his appetite wanes. He pudges up right before stretching out. As long as your daughter is eating a reasonably well-balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg etc., and as long as she's pretty active then that extra energy is going to go to building her up into a good, strong, healthy girl.

DD1 will be eleven next month and does eat a lot more recently too. She is skinny as a pole though and a bit of fat would not hurt her. I agree with others that say it usually preceeds a growth spurt.

My DD is nearly exactly the same age, small and thin and has developed an appetite for the first time in her life. There is a major growth spurt coming fairly soon, the dentist was telling me that's when they like to fit some types of braces.

Thank you all.

Off to the shops again to stock up on more fruit and veg!

Her periods haven't started yet but she was complaining that her (apparently undeveloped) nipples were starting to hurt if accidentally brushed again. So we have bought her some crop tops.

My 12 year-old daughter is permanently hungry. She's grown 3 inches in the past year, and is putting on muscle (very sporty) and starting to develop a bum more womanly figure.

As you say, lots of healthy stuff, but let her eat to her appetite.

My DD 12 eats a lot more than she used to, her periods started over a year ago and I frequently don't recognise her in a room as she looks like an adult now in shape. She has grown over 4 inches in the last 18 months or so

Blimey--I see we are not alone in this.

I just couldn't remember myself at that same age (rather too long ago, sadly).
