DD is 4 next month and I have finally taken her bottle from her. She has been drinking soya milk in the evenings, bottle before bed, one thru the night and one in the morning. I have finally removed all bottles, but she refuses to drink it out of anything else, it is important for her to drink mild. She is adamant that bottle is for milk and cup is for juice. Any suggestions . ?

Don't quite understand -- if she has been drinking soya milk, is that because she does not eat dairy? Otherwise why the soya, does she like it better?

Calcium is obv important one way or another. I would say milk is important under normal circumstances. But if you have a DC who cannot tolerate dairy then they need to get calcium some other way, whether from soya or whatever, it's not something you can just not bother about...

She was breast for first year. My partner is dairy free so we decided to put her on soya. She is not dairy free, She eats plenty of cheese, youghurts etc but she has decided that milk is for bottle and will not drink it out of anything else ...

Milk per se is not necessary as long as they get calcium from elsewhere. DS has never drunk milk - breastfed until 15 months, absolutely refused any form of other milk before and after that. Now aged 11, tall and well-built for his age (95th centile plus for height). He does eat cheese, but refuses other dairy products like yoghurt, also won't drink anything milky like soya milk. I wouldn't worry too much. And cutting out night-time bottles is definitely the right thing for her dental health, so don't give in to her demands to get a bottle back.

We have had a tough two nights without the bottle but will NOT give in, I have left it go on far too long but she absolutely LOVES it. This morning she did not even look for it, eat lots of fruit and cereal with soya on and went off to creche singing.

Thank u exexpat, it is exactly what DP is saying but would like if she would continue drinking it, maybe we will go this afternoon and pick out a special soya drinking cup ...

Most nutritionist agree on the fact that milk is mostly for babies. In fact cows milk has too much calcium and not enough Mg to be balanced. It's easier for a human to absorb Ca/Mg from veg than from milk.
One of my earliest memories is vommitting milk and I never had it since. We are dairy-lite for all sorts of reasons.
