Ds1 had an accident on the trampoline on thursday teatime, his little sister landed on his knee.

Anyway since then he hasn't been able to straighten his leg, and has pain in his knee, he is limping.

There is only very slight swelling and no bruising his knee only hurts if he moves it and he's fine when sat on the sofa with a pillow under it.

So what would you do? my gut feeling is its a spain, and can't face sitting around a and e for hours.

Er, I wouldn't go on a Saturday night unless peril of death!

See how it is in the morning, you might be able to see an out of hours doc?

Schulte · 17/04/2010 19:58

I have a funny feeling that nowadays even if a ligament is torn, all they do is tell you to rest your knee... but am no professional so may be wrong! I'd be tempted to give it another day or two and see how he goes. But hopefully someone will come along with better advice.

yes, i would take him, no question. if he is still limping and can't straighten it

unless you happen to have an nhs walk-in centre nearby? i'd use that before a&e

What about your OOH Dr?

I'd try them before going to a+e on a Saturday night.

Or do you have a Childrens Hospital nearby? Our OOH Dr has sent us straight to the assessment ward at out nearest Childrens Hospital before, which bypasses a+e.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon and he's up and running again.

He could have displaced the kneecap, hard to tell...in which case as soon as you feel able, basically.

It's early saturday night atm, might not be too busy yet. Ring them and ask.

LoveBeingAMummy · 17/04/2010 20:09

NHS direct can book you inot the children's bit rather than sitting and waiting with the drunks i believe

preggersplayspop · 17/04/2010 20:10

If he could sleep ok and not in constant pain I would take early morning - I would definitely want to have it checked out. I've had to go on Saturday evenings before though, and its not been too bad in the children's A&E (not sure if all hospitals have a separate children's bit?), though the main A&E section looked a bit unpleasant to hang around in.

thisisyesterday · 17/04/2010 20:11

actually, you could ring your nearest a&e and see what they advise? i don't know if they're ok with people doing that or not?
they'd be able to tell you if they're hideously busy or not at least

Jojay · 17/04/2010 20:12

It's been two days already since he hurt his leg - I don't see how another night will do any harm.

I'd go in the morning if he still can't straighten it.

LargeGlassofRed · 17/04/2010 20:13

thank you all, I can have a glass of wine then
will see how he is tomorrow, there is an out of ours gp thing next to a and e, could try ringing there tomorrow and see what they think.

He's resting it and have done the peas thing a few times,

Thanks for the advise fingers crossed it will feel better tomorrow, will update then.
