Baby scalded on face. How long before he can go out in the sun?

Poor ds4 pulled a cup of hot tea over himself 10 days ago and scalded his scalp and face. Luckily he has healed very well and the doctor at the plastics clinic yesterday felt that he would be left with no scars. But I stupidly forgot to ask her how whether:
1/ He should be allowed outdoors at all. He loves going out in the garden and in his buggy but the sun is so strong at the moment, I'm terrified!
2/ Whether it's now OK to put sunblock on as we usually would in nice weather. Would sunblock irritate his skin? I have hypallergenic cream with SPF 50. As there are times when we have to be outdoors, even like yesterday going from the hospital to the car.
Any skin experts around?

my son feel in a boiling bath when he was 15 months and got 23% burns( thankfully no grafts were required but it was touch and go for 10 days. It was at least 4 months before he went in the sun and i used a very high sun fator.

IMO 10 days is not long enough to let the skin heal and the new skin will probably burn.

Thanks, alypaly. Luckily ( for us, not the general population of Ireland) there really wasn't much sun today so we got away with a bit of outdoor play. I did put factor 50 on him just in case.but only discovered after opening the tube that it was actually tinted so he looked like I'd put make-up on!

Ds burnt his hand when he was a toddler, I was told to use sunscreen on this area for at least 12 months as the skin was thinner.

I hope he heals quickly.

Hi Chipmonkey
My dd had a small operation next to her eyebrow that left a scar. The consultant said I should try to keep her/the scar out of the sun for ages - I honestly cant remember whether he said 12, 18 or 24 months.......
Either way a lot longer than 10 days!
I dont know how that might be different with a burn though

DD 12 burnt her hand and needed a graft when she was 2. We were told to be careful of the sun, we weren't given a time limit. However we have never gone to any hot countries and she only puts lotion on it when she would the rest of her body.

At least a month. And the you must must must make sure that the area affected is covered in sun cream, as it wil be more vulnerable

Thanks, all! It's so annoying that of all my children, the one who loves the outdoors so much is the one who will have to stay indoors.
I have always been careful about sunblock anyway. Hats are difficult as in general he likes them for a while but then seems to tire of wearing them and throw them out of the buggy! I have had to buy several!
