bump to head

Ds is 10 and had a bump to the head today while we were out at an adventure playground. He didn't actually tell me about it at the time but this evening he is saying he has a headache and feels a bit sick. He has a slight bump on the side of his head. I am thinking that it must have been a minor bump as he didn't seem hurt at the time and carried on playing quite happily the rest of the afternoon. He was certainly not knocked unconcious or anything. He has eaten well and seems fine apart from complaining of headache and feeling a bit sick which I am inclined to put down to an afternoon of tearing about maybe not drinking enough rather than a head injury. He is tired but not unusually sleepy.
Can anyone tell me any definate signs I should be looking out for? Am tempted to ring nhs direct just for my own piece of mind. I always feel a bit nervous with bumps to the head. How big a bash to the head does it have to be before you get concerned? He tells me it was a swing that swung back and hit him.

I'd give NHS Direct a ring (in fact I have done in similar circumstances).

When I've taken DS in to have his head glued after a nasty bump I was told to rouse him when I went to bed and once in the night. He had not lost conciousness at any point, nor had he thrown up.
