How can I help my 5year old ds put on weight?

Hello

My ds, who will be 6 in June, is very tall and thin. He was recently poorly with tonsillitis, didn't really eat for 3 days, and as if he wasn't skinny enough already lol... needs to put some weight on . . .

I read about complan milkshakes being suitable for children so he has been having 2 of those a day, which will gaive him around an extra 500 calories . . . but I wondered if you could give me any ideas of things to give hime to help with weight gain (e.g which yougurts are best..anything really!). . . particularly lunchbox ideas ???

Thanks

does he like cheese (I'm sure you've thought of that...)? individually wrapped croissants are full of calories and would be good lunchbox food. Homemade cakes or muffins are another possibility. For now, I'd give him just water to drink. Fruit juice, squash and milk can be quite filling

a few ideas anyhow

Try to think of how you can add calories to his normal diet so he is not getting 'empty calories' (i.e. high calorie but not particularly nutritious) in things like cakes and biscuits only.

Add butter and/or cream to as much as you can e.g. vegetables, mash, cereal, desserts, sandwiches

Avoid low calorie food when there is a higher calorie option e.g. yoghurts, spreads

Use full fat/gold top milk not semi or skimmed milk

Make your own milkshakes with full fat milk and icecream and add fruit for extra vitamins

Basically, throw all your healthy eating concepts of 'low fat is good' out the window and choose the full fat option for him

thank you have just been shopping for his lunchbox food for Monday . . . it's funny searching for the highest calorie/fat things! Have got some creamy yoghurts, babybels, cheese triangles, butter instead of marge, whole milk! Fingers crossed
