I know they are common and nothing to worry about but do I need to take her to A and E or wait til this afternoon as have an appointment for her at the docs anyway.

Will they even be able to do anything or just tell me to keep an eye on her. She is fine now

yes, i would take her, better safe than sorry.
A and E probably better than dr in this circumstace anyway.

A and E or ring NHS direct.
Hope she is OK now, and you are too.
Best to get her checked out.

When my dd had her first they said they always want to see them straight away at A&E to find out what caused it (the temperature).

Glad she is ok now (hope you are too - it's pretty scary isn't it!)

anchovies · 13/04/2010 11:29

Cross posts! Thought you seemed very calm - I am always a wreck afterwards!

My dd always sleeps straight afterwards (she is 18 months now but had her first at 7 months too)

thanks for replies, she did have a temp, came on really suddenly. I had just given her some calpol and nurofen minutes before it happened. temp seems to have gone right down now. She cried really hard for 5 minutes after she came round but is still alseep on the couch now.

Jesus, that has to have been to most scary thing ever

The first fit you should go to a&e after that, if they have another then you only need to go if it lasts over 5 minutes, but obviously still take to the doctor to find out what is wrong.

The majority of children will never have another fit. I think the odds are about 1 in 3.
My family has a genetic condition (GEFS+) which means dcs get far more fcs than normal and carry on having them past the normal age of 6. DS has had 20 odd and last one was ast year when he was 13.

There is a brilliant quote from Dr Christopher Green in Toddler Taming

"The odd fever fit is unlikely to do the child any harm, only it's mother's nerves"

Meant to say hope she is alright. DC always slept a long time after having a fc and they really don't remember anything about it.

Just got back from A and E! God what a day! she is fine though, been laughing and cooing all afternoon, you'd never believe she'd had one!
