|HELP! Do the routine jabs that babies and pre-school children have include tetanus and tetanus boosters?

My DS (age 7) fell on some barbed wire today before his footie match - the first aider clened it all up and he is fine now - BUT according to DH Ds's hand was bleeding quite a lot - so now at 11.00pm on a sat night - I am panicking the DS will get tetanus!

Please can someone advice me
TIA

I have a letter about DS's pre-school jabs; the ones they have at 3.5. It includes tetanus but in your shoes I'd probably ring NHS Direct for advice, just to be on the safe side!

Yep I'm pretty positive they do.

DD3 got scraped on some rusty wire when at my Dad's the other day and he asked if she was up to date. Fgs I'm her mom and it didn't even cross my mind.

Phone the doctor and all my 4 are covered and so I've assumed that they are given it automatically with some other routine injections.

Really need to reassess my medical knowledge.

If he had his preschool boosters he would have received diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and polio, as well as MMR.

If he has had all his primary imms as scheduled ie 3 baby jabs and his preschool booster then he doesn't need a tetanus booster now. If he missed any he should catch up with what he's due.

Barbed wire isn't necessarily a high risk for tetanus.

Bleeding is also good as it flushes the bacteria out of the wound!

thanks fro that chaos _ just rang NHD Direct and there is up to a 4 hour wait for them to get back to you!

So I 'm sure DS has had all the routine jabs and so that should cover him?

what sidge said!

(The T in DPT is for tetanus, so they get regular immunisation against it all the way through school)

Most likely, tetanus is nasty enough to be considered worthy for the routine jabs
