I can't ring until half 8. I think he had conjunctivitis a few days ago and I spoke to a nurse yesterday morning by which time his eye was no longer having a gunky discharge but was weeping clear liquid at times. Happy to assess later and clean with cooled boiled water.

Yesterday he was very hot, temp was 39.6 and didn't eat much at all. Was also very sleepy and a little bit shaky. Had calpol and went off to bed. Cried for me later but settled after I stayed with him for a while.

He slept all night getting up before 7.30am. Temp was 38 degrees. He was complaining his hips hurt so DH gave him a dose of calpol.

I am past worrying about the conjunctivitis and are now worried about his temp and his hip hurting. I have just taken his temp anit was 35.5 .

No harm in popping him along.
It probably a viral something, but I'd go on the safe side as it's been a couple of days with different things linked.

the lower temp is probably the calpol kicking in, although it could be the flu, but I always say I never worry about bringing mine to doctor for peace of mind

(by the way Fab I know you don't know me, but I don't like your new name because I think your brilliant, I always see you about and your passion for your family always stands out in your posts, I really admire you)

A neighbour has just sat with him while I walked the other neighbour's dog and she said he was fine and chatting. No rash. Temp is now 35.8 and he has just asked for calpol. He is pale and looks watery eyed. No rash. I am going to ring the surgery.

FabIsJustSoBusy · 09/04/2010 09:57

Plum.

EccentricaGallumbits · 09/04/2010 09:58

being friday and virtually impossible to see a dr over a weekend i'd get him loooked at.

FabIsJustSoBusy · 09/04/2010 10:00

That is why I have rung really. The triage nurse is ringing me back. She was lovely to me yesterday so I am glad it is her ringing.

EccentricaGallumbits · 09/04/2010 10:00

i'm also considering taking DD2. she had pussey tonsils last weekend. Has moaned about a sore throat all week. Puss gone but now coughing a bit and croaky. she won't take paracetamol (in any form) but it having gone on for a week think she should be looked at. what do you think?

FabIsJustSoBusy · 09/04/2010 10:05

appointment at 3.10pm

EG - I would take her. Maybe she needs antibiotics?

EccentricaGallumbits · 09/04/2010 10:28

she won't take them anyway so a bit of a waste of time. she's OK. no puss. no temp. her normal grumpy self. just croaky.

Fliight · 09/04/2010 10:36

Hi Fab,

if it helps, ds2 also had conjunctivitis about 3 weeks ago, (so did I!) followed by a high temp and then a rash, temp went up and down and he was grumpy for about 10 days - weird.
About 5 other people at school also reported toddlers with sticky eyes before the hols.

Maybe it is a weird virus.
Hope he is betetr soon.
We didn't have the hip pain btw but my mum had the temp and her joints were sore - so I looked it up and seems it might have been slapped cheek, because it can present as aching joints rather than a rash.

FabIsJustSoBusy · 09/04/2010 12:11

I think the nurse has given him an appointment because of the hip pain but tbh I don't know what they can do as I don't want him on antibiotics. He said he wanted to go out but I know he isn't right as he asked for an ice lolly and then barely ate any of it. It is 22 degrees here so that doesn't help.

My daughter had this as well over the Easter weekend - high temp, tiredness, red throat (so assume she had a sore throat) - she's only 2)) and conjunctivitis in her eyes. Really sounds like something going round...
(doc said it was viral and temp went down after 3 days or so)

Hope all goes well at the doctor's this afternoon.

FabIsJustSoBusy · 09/04/2010 13:21

thanks

he is sat with me now, asked for calpol but no temp, eaten less than 1/4 slice of cheese on toast.

he is quite twitchy next to me.

FabIsJustSoBusy · 09/04/2010 14:06

he has just said his neck hurts so he has had some calpol and is in my bed with me sat on the floor next to him

PlumBumMum · 09/04/2010 17:00

Well how did he get on?

(and that is far better)

FabIsJustSoBusy · 09/04/2010 17:26

He has conjunctivitis so have eye drops and the GP has given me a prescription for penicillin if he isn't better in 24 hours. He has a virus.

He just played out for a few minute and managed a bit of tea so I am hoping he is on the mend?

How is your DD?
