Chicken pox - how is ease the itchiness?

DD2 has a bout of CP and the itchiness has kicked in big time. I have given her piriton which helps a bit but is there anything I can put on the spots?

I know when we were small my mum used calamine lotion but I understand this can add to the itchiness as it is quite drying - smell nice though!

They do a calamine cream now that's far less drying. Also chuck some oats into a muslin bag/ bundle then run the bath water through this. The proteins (?) in the oats are supposed to help with the itching. I also put gloves on my two when they went to bed so if they did scratch it did less damage.

Thanks Knotty how long will this last? When will it ease for her? We're on day 4 now.

DS2 has had CP spots since last Monday. His torso and behind his ears are covered. He is only 13 months so we really didn't expect it to be so bad and quite a lot of the spots still haven't scabbed over. He caught it from DS1 who was over and done with it all within 6 days and I think this is more usual. DS1 still has very faint spots - and it's 3 weeks since he had the first signs. Baking soda in the bath is good. DS1 tells me that the spots are at the most itchy only for a couple of days - just as they are starting to scab.

aw Pluto your poor LO. My DD is the same, 13 months and pretty covered. She caught it from her DB who had it very mildly (he was vaccinated when we lived abroad but clearly only developed partial immunity).

He has had his spots for about 3 weeks too and they're still there but fading. He didn't develop any other symptoms except the spots which is apparently normal in a vaccinated child.

DD on the other hand is suffering as I have said. Have sent DH out for some calamine aqueous cream.

How is your DS sleeping Pluto? DD has had 2 dreadful nights, think it was the itchiness driving her mad

Actually I lie DD is 14 months tomorrow - that's sleep deprivation for you

I've found Eurax cream/lotion to be really good.

McDreamy - I think maybe you were on the same ante-natal thread as me?? DS2 will be 14 months too in just over a week. DS2 is sleeping better now but it hasn't been good, he's had a temperature with it too. CP is very boring - we all feel so housebound. Poor DS looks so washed out and spotty there's no way we can go anywhere with him, although I have bundled him into the big old buggy and taken him for a walk around the block. I figure a bit of fresh air and sun on his face can only do him good.
