Worried about DD2 weight

My beautiful DD, she is nearly 6, has always been tall, on 95% percentile since birth. Since she has been 4 (ish) she has not been skinny but not chubby. However she is heading that way. She has a huge tummy with long slim legs and arms. She needs size 8 clothes for height but I find it hard to get trousers to fit her cos of her tummy. I'm worried now cos she has a stretch mark (bright red) on her buttock and I weighed her and worked out her BMI, She is basically overweight. I'm not obese although my husband and his family are, so I know she has the genetics.
But she has a huge apetite and hasn't been outside playing as much over the winter. HELP! How do you work with a child who eats a huge amount (not junk) or AIBU?

My daughter is 5 and just came back as borderline overweight on the school measuring thing. She isn't overweight to look at now, but I was worried about genetics and also that she will eat and eat given half a chance. I wanted to address it now before it does become a problem.

I have done the following:

  • switched to packed lunch from school dinners. Despite apparently being healthy, she was able to have cake and custard every day and generally wasn't making healthy choices
  • stop buying anything biscuit like at home
  • tell my mum to stop buying her cakes as a treat
  • cut down a bit on portions.

All of this has been done without making a fuss with her. She is pleased to have packed lunches and she will eat most things, so I just have to take resposibility for making sure she has healthy choices.

Your DD sounds a bit like mine so maybe all you need to do is to make a few small changes.
