Does this sound like Hand, Foot and Mouth?

My DD is 16 months old and has had a runny nose and been dribbling a lot for the last 3 days.

Yesterday she came out with what looked like a viral rash on her feet (soles and tops).

I took her to the docs who took her temp (39.4) and told me it was hand, foot and mouth disease and just to keep her temp down with calpol and nurofen and stay indoors.

Her temp went up to 40 in the night, but this was bought down to 38 within half an hour of giving nurofen. The rash seemed to have left her feet and had spread to her tummy.

This morning, she is in high spirits and there is no sign of the rash anymore, although she has a slight temp.

I have googled H,F&M and everything I find says she should have blisters, not the pin prick rash that she did have. Has anyone else had any experience of this - should I be expecting her rash to turn into blisters??

Thanks

Hi my dd, 10 months just had HFAM and it is def blisters, hers went up her legs too. She had major high temp like your dd. Has she got any in her mouth?

My best friends DS has had this recently. He had blisters on his hands, feet and in his mouth (unsurprisingly given the name of the disease!), she said he had ongoing ulcers in his mouth and sore looking spots on his hands and feet.

Just because your daughter only has them on her feet and legs doesn't mean that it isn't HFAM. The sores may appear in her mouth and on her hands later or not at all.

I'd follow the docs advice if I were you and try not to worry too much, I think it's quite common.

DD1 had HFAM. She had the pinprick spots rather than blisters, mainly around her mouth.

Friends from our antenatal group that caught it at the same time had blisters, so it does differ from child to child.

She also had the very high temperature.

Thanks for your answers.

The rash has now spread all over her body.
Her temperature was high in the night, but seems ok this morning, she is a bit grisly, but doesnt seem ill.

We will take her to a&e if she gets any worse (doctors are closed due to bank hols).

Charlieboo, she wont let me look in her mouth - I keep trying!
