dry/itchy patches on scalp - please share your thoughts

DD, nearly 9 months, has had dry, itchy patches on her scalp since she was about 2 months old. It started at about the same time as she developed a temporary lactose intolerance. The GP initially diagnosed these dry patches as eczema and prescribed diprobase, which helped a little. At her 6-9 month health check, another GP said she thought it was more likely to be ringworm and prescribed canesten. The patches are still there, round-ish and raised and with scaly skin.

I've tried the creams prescribed and I've tried various oils for cradle cap, all with no effect. DD has dry skin but no evidence of eczema anwhere else on her body.

Don't know whether it's relevant, but at the time that these itchy patches started to develop, she also developed very persistent nappy rash that only cleared up after 3 months of various antifungal treatments and continuous use of diprobase, and which the GP put down to a mixture of thrush and eczema.

What could this be, and what can I do about it? GPs don't seem to be very good at either skin or babies, so I'm hoping that the collective wisdom of MN might help!

ask for a dermatology referral.

My dd had strep A which took them 18 months to diagnose and also developed psorasis most of which was on her scalp initially - apparantly it's rare to develop in a young child but it does happen.
