7 month old with diarrhoea is refusing all food and drink

Yesterday he was off his food and didn't have nearly as much formula as he usually does.
Today he has just point blank refused food and only seems to have his bottles if he is really really hungry, and even then he only has the bare minimum.
I'm worried about him dehydrating, but he just won't have any more milk, or water.
I have dioralyte but he doesn't want that either.
Aside from being a little fussy (which is to be expected) he seems ok in himself.
Does anyone have any tips to get at least a little bit of fluid in him? I have a syringe, would it be cruel to use it to get him to have something to drink?

I'm keeping a very close eye on him and the first sign of him getting worse I'm heading straight for the walk in centre, though I'm not sure what they can do.

as long as he is getting the bare minimum, he should be OK. Is he weeing OK?

You could try ice lollies...or crushed ice.

You are right to keep a close eye on him because babies' condition can deteriorate very quickly.

Hope he feels better soon

Oh yeah, I might try that. Thank you.

How are his nappies? Are they wet?

MrsChemist · 31/03/2010 14:57

Yeah they are and I'm keeping an eye on them. I just feel a bit helpless and don't want him to get worse, but I think he will if he doesn't drink more

You know the signs of dehydration, I presume? If he shows any sign whatsoever, take him to your doc, or A&E.

Will he take water from a spoon? Or dilute some juice and give him that. Doesn't matter about sugar, getting fluids into him is more important.

The only thing that the docs can do is have him admitted to hospital and put on a drip to ensure that he does not dehydrate. That is a last resort, hopefully he will perk up soon.

Yeah it's no wet nappies, irritability and lethargy and dry mouth right? Oh and a sunken fontanel (sp?)
He is a bit irritable, but that's it. He's just dribbled all over my face, so no dry mouth and he is still weeing.

How is he this morning. Hope you had a peaceful night

MrsChemist · 01/04/2010 12:58

Peaceful night, but he threw up this morning. Going to the walk in centre because he's not happy, bless him.

Thank you for asking after him
