Eczema and swimming?

Hello.

My DD (2.5) has intermittent eczema. It tends to come up when her temp goes above normal, at the moment this is because of constant teething and she has some steroid/AB cream prescribed for it.

Can i take her swimming? It will be once every couple of weeks, not everyday or anything excessive. She has been asking loads about going and i'm unsure about how it will effect her skin.

Thanks for any info

Why don't you try it? DS2 has eczema, although it's not bad. He loves swimming. Unfortunately, our local pool is very highly chlorinated and that does seem to be a trigger for the eczema. Other pools don't have the same effect.

Thank you, will perhaps go tomorrow if it looks ok in the morning (and i can fit my boobs into my costume!)

Cover her in Eucerin 10% Urea (sold at Boots), one hour before swimming, when out, rinse her well and apply the cream generously again. (mind you, it will sting on broken skin)

DD2 swims at last once a week.

She has mild eczema which definately improves in the school hols when she doesn't swim.

However the enjoyment she gets from swimming outweighs the negatives IMHO

I cover her in oilatum the night before she swims (makes her slippery in the water though!) and make sure I rinse her off well afterwards.

Enjoy

we're lucky here
local pool doesn't use chlorine , uses UV rays to clean the water or something
