Help! I'm really struggling as he obviously hates it and fights. I hate it too

I used to administer them when ds was asleep, by dropping few drops near the nose, then gently rubbing them down the eye.

We had to put Fucidin ointment into DS (22 months) eyes. He didn't like it at all (I tried some and it is quite stingy when it first goes in).

We used a mixture of a firm hold and get them in as quickly as possible over and bribery; raisins seemed to cheer pretty effectively.

Our GP prescribed the ointment and said it's easier to apply than drops.

I used to straddle ds on the floor and hold his eyelids open to put the drops in. He naturally played hell but that was the only way to do it.

it helps to wrap them up in a blanket so no arms etc can flail (sp?) about. It's horrid having to give them i know, but as it has to be done then best to do it with as little fuss as possible.

I used to lay dd1 on the seattee, make her hold hands and then lean across her arms, effectively pinning her down,
but not straddling her like Pixie

All of the above are good tips, but also check out other tips on Great Ormond Street Hospital's pages. They've got wonderful tips for parents for any sort of medication dispensing so worth bookmarking Good luck!

Firm hold, straddling used here too....tis easier with 2 people. I have jsut dropped them onto his tightly closed eyes, so it pools in the corner whilst he was led down....then at some point when he opens eyes some of the drops do seem to get in.

It is grim and they dont like it, but necessary.

Many thanks for all your help. Am now miffed that he wasn't given the drops which are twice daily rather than four times because they are expensive had run out .
