2 year old with sore nose/chin area...how to treat?

DS has had a runny nose for weeks, and has therefore had his nose wiped ALOT. He now looks very red and sore around his nose and on his chin too, as he's been dribbling alot for about a week.

What can i use to soothe this sore area? I don't like to use Sudocrem or E45 so close to mouth and nose on a two year old.

Perhaps Vaseline? Is that safe for a toddler's face? - or would that be more preventative?

Thanks in advance

My 2 year old ds has just had this too. I coated his face in sudocreme before bed and first thing in morning and then vasaline before we left the house

Vaseline is best, I find, and very safe - I was told to use it for dry skin on my newborn.

In our house we always reach for what DS3 (age 3) calls Savlle, as in 'shall I put some Savlle on?'. The stuff is magic and seems te heal the uckiest of skin problems. Although I did find him brushing his teeth with it yesterday ...

CoffeeMum · 27/03/2010 17:35

Thanks all. Sudocrem it is, and i'll pick up some Vaseline tomorrow. Lostinwales - do you mean Savlon?!

At least if i put the Sudocrem on before bedtime, i can check DS isn't just licking it off, as i suspect he might...

Yes sorry, I forget I'm the only person who understands DS! Savlle - on!

FalafelAtYourFeet · 27/03/2010 17:38

I don't think he will lick sudocrem twice- it doesn't taste very nice!

FourArms · 27/03/2010 17:52

Lansinoh is good if you have any knocking around?

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. Like vaseline but stickier. Our family friend. I buy tubes whenever I walk through an airport - expensive but fabulous.

(Apparently Catherine Zeta Jones used it on her ds's nappy rash).

Weleda baby moisturiser... tis good stuff.

CoffeeMum · 27/03/2010 18:49

Thanks all - Sudocrem is on, and unbelievably, seems to be working already, hurrah!

Falafel, bless you for thinking he wouldn't do it twice, but you might underestimate my DS...he's been at the cat biscuits all week

Traumaqueen, good grief, did CZJ really use 8 hour cream on her babies' bums? I can't even afford to use something of that calibre on my own face these days...

Thank you for answers everybody, hopefully my DS's poor face will be better soon
