This is my worst nightmare (well, almost)

My 4yo DD has woken in the night with a sickness bug - vomit everywhere. Ordinarily this would be something we would just deal with and get over, but the problem is we have a 6 day old baby and I'm recovering from a c-section.

Can anyone offer advice on what to do if my baby gets the bug? She's formula fed, although had one day's breast feeding initially.

Obviously we'll keep the sick one away from the baby as much as possible and we're practising good hygiene (anti bac soap, hand gel etc...) but I'm so worried about the baby being ill.

Thanks for looking

Your baby should be protected by your antibodies until she is 12 weeks old so please try not to panic. Carry on doing as you are (good hygiene etc). If she starts to vomit then it's important to make sure she's adequatly hydrated and doesn't become dehydrated, look at her fontenelle, it should be flat and not dip or bulge. If she begins to vomit then cross this bridge if you come to it and contact NHS direct.

i had this when ds2 was born! The day after he was born dd came down with norovirus for a week then 1 day after she started to feel better ds1 got it for a week too!
Ds2 was fine just a bit of diarrohea and sick, and he hadnt been breastfed at all so baby should be fine x

That's reassuring, thanks Ellen, although sorry you had to deal with it!

DD1 is still off colour today - can't keep more than a sip of water down.

Touch wood, so far DD2 is ok. We've kept her totally separate from DD1 and have been scrupulous about hygiene, even wearing face masks when feeding/changing etc...!
