Woke this morning and dd felt warm so took her temp, it was 37.7, took her sleeping bag off and gave it 10/15 mins it was then 37.9. Gave nurofen at 06.40, nearly an hour ago and it's 38.1. Should I give calpol now as well or wait bit longer? Am waiting for drs to open at 8 to get appointment. Thanks

Hope you got to GP - she may need antibiotics - had similar problem with DS last week - hope she gets better soon x

good for you going to the docs, can't be too careful when they're under a year.

wetting their hair and letting it dry in the air is a good way to bring down temp, as is a wipe down with a damp flannel. but there is of course the thinking that a temp is the body's way of fighting a virus, because viruses die off in high temps, to unless the child is limp or listless i don't tend to give much calpol until bedtime. ask your doc.

Hi, thanks for replies, I gave calpol at 8.20 as it still hadnt come down, is now about 37.4. Am off to Drs at 11.10. She keeps pulling her ear so maybe infection or just teething or a virus, who knows. Hopefully dr can shed more light. Thanks x

My ds had a temp of between 38 and 39 all week which I couldn't bring down with nurofen or calpol. The GP suggested running a normal temp bath and then gradually adding a little bit of cold water until it got to tepid.

Try not to worry - she will probably be fine in a few days.

CharlieBoo · 25/03/2010 20:30

Dr said no infection prob just virus or teeth but it's constantly staying around 38 even with calpol and nurofen alternated. Just had to wake to give more calpol as it went up to 38.8 and she had nurofen at 6. Shall I keep wakng her in the night? She feels red hot but dr said 38 was not too bad. Help I hate nightime when they're like this, it never seems so bad in the day

i wouldn't think that thirty eight was so high either, are you waking her becuase she's in pain?

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 25/03/2010 20:38

did you try wetting her hair etc?

CharlieBoo · 25/03/2010 20:50

Yes bathed her with tepid bath earlier, she is managing to stay at 38 with calpol and nurofen but with nothing all night at worried it might go really high. prob worrying bout nothing, will just keep eye on her. Thanks

How has your dd been today CharlieBoo?

CharlieBoo · 26/03/2010 19:18

Hi, well to be honest it looks like she may have chickenpox!! Changed her nappy at about 2 and she had 3 big raised spots on her legs and when I looked closer some little bumpy ones. Rang surgery who did not want to see her, told to ring hv. She said give calpol n wait n see. She is sooo grumpy but temp down considerably fromyesterday. Thanks so much for thinking of us. I do love mumsnet! X

It could be chicken pox or it might just be a non specific viral rash. I took ds to surgery as he had exact same thing - big raised spots, but by the time I got there they had started to fade! My ds always gets a rash with a virus.
Hope she is better soon x
