DD is 12 and has started her periods, tonight she called me in and said 'look at this', there was greenish-grey clear stuff coming out of her breast, near the nipple but not out of it, in the 'darker' bit, it was coming out of one place like a little pore or something, when she squeezed it a bit more came out. It wasn't loads but like when you prick your finger, enough to 'dot' a tissue. She had a tissue with about a dozen 'dots' on it.

I was all cool calm and collected and said some guff about hormones but I am panicking, going to call doc monday morning

Has anyone heard of this? I tried google but it all seems to be about discharge from the actual nipple. Every time I googled it the first hits were for cancer FFS.

Could it be a spot or infection? Greyy/green sounds a bit puss-like. I occassionally get blocked pores in my areola and they can be a bit gunky

Probably not a bad idea to take her to the doctor to be sure, but breast cancer is so rare at her age that I would think it is far more likely that it is something minor

i was thinking the same as pushmepullyou, very possibly a spot or something. but def get it checked by a GP

It's more then likely to be an infection in one of the ducts or a pore. Have you had a prod to see if there's a specific sore spot/small lump?? It really does sound like puss, to my knowledge discharge associated with breast cancer is milk when not lactating or blood, there are other symptoms aswell though.

MmmCoffee · 20/03/2010 20:53

Yes I know it's more than likely something minor, it's just weird, I've never seen anything like it. It's not pus, it was clear liquid like you get in a blister, but sort of grey.

I'm just being an overprotective mum and panicking. Can't help it.

dd had this, there was an embarrassing moment when she told me and i said "let me have a look then" and she thought about it and i said " its nowt i haven't seen love" and she whapped it out - so i took her to the docs and she got anti biotics and job done.

Does anyone know do the ducts open out in the areole? if thats the right word? Because the discharge isn't from the nipple it's from about half an inch to the side.

static.howstuffworks.com/gif/breast-implant-natural.gif here, see the ducts are really close to the skin surface? Any infection will find a way to get out IYSWIM.

MmmCoffee · 20/03/2010 21:31

Thanks Belle. Fingers crossed it's an infection or something and antibiotics will be the answer.

Well finally got to see the doctor today, she was really not concerned and she did a lot to calm down the panicky mum

She asked if dd had started her periods (she has). Said it was hormone-related, and was just a 'secretion'. She did say that if it carries on we're to go back, but that it should settle down. It's already a lot less than it was.

And she showed dd how to do a breast self-exam which is a Good Thing.
