Pox at preschool and nursery. The big 2 have had it, so kind of hope we'd be ok with DD2 being fully breastfed etc.

She's got a slight temp, generally miserable looking, and noticed a spot as I was putting her down to sleep.

Just preparing mentally in case it is pox... how scary is it likely to be in a 5 month old?

ds had it at about 6 months and wasnt too bad. we used acqueous calamine cream on the spots and he didnt seem too itchy with it. DD (who gave it to ds) had it much worse and had a few disturbed nights.

Unfortunately ds then went on to develop shingles at the age of 3 which is fairly unusual. The first gp even misdiagnosed it as eczema and I was rubbing cream into what must have been a very painful rash!

DD had it at 6 months (whilst being fully b'fd). She wasn't too bad. We had a couple of grouchy days and nights, but not awful. It looked worse than it was I think and at least she wasn't really able to scratch herself properly

DD has just had it at 7 months corrected age and it wasn't too bad.

Thank you

Atm no more spots (miserable baby though). I seem to recall the other 2 had one, then the rest appeared about 48 hours later, so not announcing no pox yet.

Yeah we had one spot for about 24 hours, then 3 for the next 24 hours, and soon after that we stopped counting! Think she had around 80-100 in the end.

Sorry my earlier message was rather abrupt - DD was just getting grumpy and I wanted to reply before I forgot!

Hope she cheers up soon - lots of aqueous calamine and cuddles!

Flame · 20/03/2010 20:06

Lol didn't find it abrupt at all

Just read the bit about Seona and the non-eczema that must've been sore

DS3 has had it and he was covered in spots head to foot. He is four months old. He is getting better now so just to reassure you that if she gets it and gets lots and lots of spots, she will get better! We used aquas with camomile and it helped. Calpol helped him too. He's now shedding scabs all over the house (see my profile pics of him at his worst). The worst bits last 2 days. My other DSs got it first.

PS He has really bad eczema too but while he is spotty his eczema has gone. Don't understand why. Perhaps the body can only cope with one skin condition at a time.

Seona1973 - i had shingles as a teen, it was caught very early, and only had an itch, no pain, so if you caught it early, it may not have been that painful for him
