What can I do to help him (DS3)? Should I keep applying the eczema cream anyway (double-base and hydrocortizone) or can I used Eurax (cream I got for other two DSs as they also have chicken pox) or will that make the eczema worse? Any one any experience? We are basically in spotty hell this week

I would see your DR. When one my ex charges with horrific excema got chicken pox we took him to DR and they sent him to hospital and they thought it mgiht be secondary infection. It wasn't so we just used his normal excema routine without hydrocortisone and let him have calpol. Fortunatly after the chicken pox went his excema also cleared up. He was 12 months when he got the pox.

I'm sure if you ring the surgery and say you've got such a young one with the pox the DR may do a house call or phone call.

That seems a little bit scary. His eczema isn't quite as bad as normal today (expect it to get worse in a couple of days as that seems to be the pattern). He's very sleepy today but happy when he's awake (unlike his older brother who also has chicken pox).

Oh poor him. That's very little to get chicken pox.

My DD had it incredibly badly at 13 months. It literally covererd her whole body, but bizarely she hasn't suffered from eczema since! She had it quite badly before. It was as if she shedded her old skin and started again!

Anyway, we found lots of baths in bicarbonate of soda worked best for her. Not sure if you can use Eurax cream on little ones. have you tried Piriton?

He is totally covered today. It is heartbreaking. Should I ring the doctor or does he just need to ride it out?

I like the theory that chicken pox gets rid of eczema, that would be wonderful.

call the doctor bendy

as nannynz says, eczema and chicken pox can sometimes be serious and with a baby that small, it's not worth taking any risks. They might want to just have a look at him to make sure his skin isn't getting infected.

visit elenasnaturecollection.co.uk for natural products to manage eczema. Non steroidal non greasy etc. They are offering FREE samples at the moment for the next 2 weeks. Also available on the NHS. Havn't used anything else on my child since I found them in 1999!
They also do stuff for Chickenpox.

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/03/2010 16:13

I rang doctors. They weren't exactly overly concerned and just told me to get some camomile lotion for him. They did say to ring back if he gets worse.

Thanks for the link creamqueen! I will investigate.

He really is covered. His chest, back, bottom and head are covered in spots.

what about zynco cream that worked well for my ds its a spray and zynco is soothing and keeps skin moist and also contains camomile to soothe the pox

nannynz · 16/03/2010 22:11

Strange since he's so young.

Does he seem well in his self. One thing the DR said was to make sure liquids were kept well up as both the excema and pox combined can lead to dehydration.

Hope he gets spotless soon and that the excema goes as well.

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/03/2010 14:40

I didn't think he'd get it this bad given his age. Luckily he is feeding fine and has only vomited once. I've putsome piccies of the poor little man on my profile.

DD2 had excema and chicken pox just last month (aged 6 month) it was everywhere. we just used camomile aqueous cream (every nappy change) which moisturises and helps with itching and bathed every night in aveeno bath oil to keep skin moist. doses round the clock with calpol for about 4 days. funnily her excema was also much bettwe afterwards fingers crossed.

nannynz · 17/03/2010 22:16

Oh wow he's spotty and so very cute.

If you feel he's doing ok then am sure he's fine.

Lets hope that his excema clears up after the pox - it seems like that happens often. A cure for excema could well be chickin pox.

BeckyBendyLegs · 18/03/2010 11:44

I hope the chicken pox helps his eczema, that would be super great! He has an appointment with the dermatoligist at end of this month as his eczema has been so bad (can't tell at the moment due to spots!). He looks and feels like a baby alien today as the spots have started to crust over. We're also using aquas with camomile and calpol. He's miserable, understandably, but feeding ok and sleeping well so I guess we'll just have to ride it out.
