Sorry, another chicken pox question...

Me, dd1 and 1 twin are definitely over it, not infectious anymore.

Other twin still has spots which have not scabbed, mostly round her nappy area, some are fading without scabbing at all. Some are still quite red and angry looking.

Is she still infectious?
I'm on my 4th housebound week now (apart from visiting "safe" family) and whilst my bank account is reaping the rewards of this I am going out of my mind!!!!!

Yes, still contagious, sorry!

Some people may say otherwise, since the angry spots would be under clothing, but I would err on the side of caution. If my DD were to catch cp it would potentially be very dangerous as she is immunosuppressed - you never know who you might be putting at risk. Sorry.

I can identify with your cabin fever though - we're also into week 4 of isolation (high dose chemo) - entertaing a bored child in one room is hard work, can't imagine how hard it would be with 3 to keep occupied!

I don't know whether she is contagious or not (better be cautious as FightingDwarf said) but it is possible that the ones under the nappy aren't scabbing properly because they are getting a bit soggy. Perhaps a bit of nappy free time might speed things up. At the least, it would liven things up while you are stuck at home !

Sympathies - my two have just finished chickenpox (very mildly thankfully)

Spots not crusted over usually means they are still at the blistered stage. I assume these are spots that have blistered and are now open sores so to speak which as ace baby says are in the nappy area and can't dry properly if this is the case I reckon she probably isn't contagious anymore.

My children had it at Christmas and ds2 still has some sore spots on his bottom!

poorbuthappy · 10/03/2010 10:46

Fightingdwarf...christ love, I'm glad its only chicken pox I'm dealing with here...hope everything is ok!

I am trying nappy free time, but I am getting slightly bored of finding my kids playing in puddles of pee...and I'm not convinced its the most hygenic thing in the world!!

I think the spots are fading a bit now, so I don't think they are going to scab...so another review on the weekend...

thanks all!

just remembered that metanium nappy rash cream seemed to dry up DS2's spots in that region (he had a nappy rash as well). It might be worth a try if the puddles (and worse!) get trying. Good luck!
