I haven't posted many times before but really need some support and advice at the moment, my world has turned upside down in the last few days.

My 7 month old ds was v poorly on tuesday and gp didn't know what it was so sent him to A&E who also weren't sure and put him in the assessment unit overnight. During the night he had a fit and they thought it was probably meningitis (which has since been confirmed) so were treating him for that. They also did a ct scan which has shown a lump on his brain. They don't know what it is but are doing an mri scan next week to try and get more of an idea what it is.

He has been really poorly these last few days and it is breaking my heart seeing him like this. Everyone says to take one day at a time but all I can think of is what this lump might be and lots of horrible scenarios are running through my head. I am absolutely terrified about what might happen and am so sad that I can't protect him from all that is happening.

I am just about clinging onto normality as we have a 2.5 yr old dd who we are trying to keep life as normal as possible for but sometimes it is all too much.

Just another quick update - have been to see consultant today who has reiterated that the lump has gone from ds' brain but that there is still a lesion there. They don't know what the lesion will do, it could disappear completely, could grow but not affect him or grow and affect him, e.g. epilepsy, learning difficulties, which could present themselves when he is older.

At the moment he is on track developmentally and hopefully it won't have any further impacts on him but at least if it does we are already in the system and they will know where to look. He has another check up in 6 months and another MRI next summer.

Can't believe how fortunate DS is, six months ago I thought we would lose him but now it is almost as if nothing has happened to him. Still have slight fears at the back of my mind but fortunately they don't worry me too much most of the time.

Another quick update for anyone still interested!! Took ds to see consultant in May and he has been discharged as he is absolutely fine, developing as he should do and no reason to keep seeing the drs. He still has to have an MRI in August to see what is happening with his brain compared with a year ago and that will determine his future care, if any is required. Drs don't know what the lump/lesion will do, there are any number of possibilities but hopefully the MRI will give us an idea. At least if he has any problems in the future he is in the system and they will know where to start looking.

Thanks again for all the support I had at the start of last year. Still can't believe that so far everything has turned out OK.

Oh your poor little boy, and poor you!

It must be so hard trying to stay sane for your DD, but it sounds like you are being an utter star.

I hope with all my heart DS comes through all this well and wish you all the very best of luck.
