Can a 1yr old have a chest infection with no temperature?

DD is really coldy/now chesty. This morning was very clingy and quiet which is usual for her. She was also sick yesterday at nursery which was phlegm related.

Dont want to waste a doctors appt but given I've just been ill I dont want her to suffer...

Any ideas?

My ds just had a chest infection, he didn't particularly have a temperature to begin with, but he was lethargic, 'not himself' and very whingy (he was 1 on Saturday). I took him to the GP expecting to be sent home, but as his breathing was quite laboured and his chest was going right in so you could see his ribs between breaths, he sent me to the children's ward. Again I thought we'd be sent home but were actually admitted overnight. He was monitored, given a chest x-ray, and given Calpol to bring down temp. which had developed by this stage. Went home next day - just told it was a viral infection, and he was out of sorts for best part of a week afterwards. I wouldn't hesitate to go to GP. Its what they are there for, and you know your dd better than anyone, so know what is normal for them and what is not. If GP looks her over and says she is ok, then you can feel reassured, not that you've wasted doctors appt. Good luck.

Wow Happynappies, you must have been really worried about him. Thanks for the reassurance about taking an apppointment.

The not herself thing is the key factor I think. She apparently fell asleep on nursery floor this morning. Also, I was really ill with chest infection last week and the weekend and was given quite strong codeine tabs. Although Doc said it wont transfer to her ( still do 2x BF a day) I am worried about this now too.

I have tried to ring just now but they are full this morning so I need to ring again at 2pm to get the next available appointments released

Thank you

I should say in defence of doctor, that he said it might make her dozy.
