Before I start, this isn't a question about toilet training btw honestly!!

DS 2 is in nappies, knows exactly what the toilet is for etc, has no desire to use it yet

Anyway, he will tell me when his nappy needs changing but never advance warning etc.

Now then if I leave his nappy off, I have noticed recently that he doesn't just wee and us go aaaah he's weeing get the potty!! He WEES as in someon tipping out a jug of water - spludosh! Then he realises, he is almost shocked at it.

I am sure this is not normal......is it?

Any advice /expeience greatly appreciated!

sounds normal to me. i'd give it another 6 months and it'll all work itself out fine.

some kids just don't want to until they are nearer 3

I agree it sounds normal. I don't have a boy thank goodness, but my friends ds gave himself a lovely cut on the head when he was undressed to get in the bath, had a wee, saw where it came from and fell over in surprise.

When ds was between 18m and 2y3m we used to have to get regular urine samples and each time he peed he got a shock and once cried for 10 minutes!!

the thing is, I have looked after children for years...I have never seen it come out this fast!! Literally I could never do anything about it, it is just like someone has upturned a bucket in one go, it never trickles out or down his legs like a gentle wee.

Sorry probably didn't explain myself properly. What I meant is, it happens so so quickly that he doesn't have time to be anything other than surprised AFTER it has happened. He didn't used to be like this.

Also the other morning, I could hear him weeing into his nappy. Wondered what the noise was!

maybe worth checking out with the gp or nurse

I'd speak to a GP personally. Doesn't sound exactly right to me - my (fairly extensive) experience of small boys weeing is that you get a stream of urine.

If doctor smirks well that is two of us the wiser then...

No nor me he seems happy enough. Will make an appt I think. Will try and leave nappy off over weekend and pay a bit more attention!

Does he drink squash/juice?

I've noticed that when my ds2 has been drinking squash he often has dramatic wee accidents (he has been toilet trained for almost a year) He says he just can't sop it coming.

Oh that's interesting, thank you. Will experiment. he has a real mixture of things and quite happy to have water so will see.
