Poo experts - why might ds2 have bad diahorrea, pale with curd like lumps?

Have posted before as ds2 has had bowel problems since birth. No definate diagnosis last month we were told he has an immature intestine (he is now 15 months old). However for the last 3 weeks he has had terrible diahorrea, going 8-10 times a day. To start off with the stools were dark in colour and very liquidy.

The last 3 days though he has done several still very runny pale poo's which have had white curdy lumps in them. Also he's done a few small ones which were very dry, looked a bit like the rubbings you get of a scratch card IYSWIM.

He's been fine in himself, although at night he's been crying a lot and seems to have stomach ache. Dr saw him today and has sent of a stool sample. Have googled a bit and found out about fats in poo. Test results won't be back until Fri at the earliest and they are only to rule out a bug.

Anyone got any ideas? Should I be pushing the GP more or just wait for results.

I would push the GP more. Diarrhoea is a serious problem because it means everything is travelling too fast and is not being absorbed by the gut. Dehydration and malnutrition are dangerous so if he's had it for three weeks that's not good at all. And if he's been this way since birth, that's even worse.

Since medicine is often a process of elimination I would push the GP for a plan... ie. they're testing for a bug. So you ask... Which bugs? What happens if it is a bug? What is the treatment? What happens if it's not a bug? What will we look for next? What are the possible things it could be? What do we do about an 'immature intestine' to help matters? Can he be referred to a specialist? etc.

Good luck....

Thanks Chil1234. The GP says he's not dehydrated - he is eating and drinking ok. He hasn't had the diahorrea since birth, but he has had problems with pooing since birth (intially he had suspected Hirschsprungs now we've swung the other way). I guess I'm worried this is linked to his existing problems and they may have missed something whereas the GP seems to think it could be something else but isn't really sure what.

Thanks for the suggestions of what to ask. I haven't really been asking questions at all. When we see the hospital consultant I always feel rushed out the door and haven't normally taken in what he's told us until we get home and I have a think about it.

My plan now is to phone for results on Friday and if they don't show anything as for rereferal back to consultant. Unless things worsen before then in which case I will be back at the GP's sooner.

thank you.
