contagious itchy pus spots all over dd and apparently it lasts for months

So it seems dd (4) has this kind of fungal infection that the doctor diagnosed, but of course the name of which I can't remember at all. What I do remember was that he told me was that they are going to be there for a couple of months. He's given me some antibiotics for her so hopefully they'll kick in and do something soon, though not sure what if this thing lasts for months

The nursery lady said she vaguely remembered her dd getting it from a swimmng pool. My dd had been in one in france about a week before she got these spots.

It's a bit frustrating not knowing the name as i can't horrify myself google it.
mostly they are on her torso, but some have crept up on to her face.

Has anyone any knowledge of this disease/illness?

Is it molluscum? Very common, caught in swimming pools, etc.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 26/02/2010 10:21

ring the surgery and ask for the name of the condition

I was going to say molloscum but have not heard of antibiotics as treatment

Seona1973 · 26/02/2010 10:40

if they are infected then antibiotics can be prescribed. DD and ds have both had molluscum and it can last a long time (over a year in dd).

aquababe · 26/02/2010 10:51

just googled it that definitely looks like it she'd scratched a few so yes infected
it sounds really horrid

Molluscum. like lice and worms. they all ge them eventually. i got them when DD2 had them who caught them from someother little oik DD1.

they can last ages but generally don't get infected and shouldn't stop DCs from doing anything (like swimming, nursery etc)

ShauntheSheep · 26/02/2010 11:04

Dd had these and I used teatree and aloe vera on the spots and once they got to the stage of almost bursting I covered with plasters (if poss) as its the white bit in the middle of the spot that causes it to spread apparently. Made sure to clean the spots once they had burst too. It is a faff but htey cleared up really quickly after that.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 26/02/2010 11:06

not fungal though is it, it's a virus

this is why I said ring for a firm confirmation of the condition

MrsPixie · 26/02/2010 11:09

molluscum is not fungal, you need to ask them again what it is

aquababe · 26/02/2010 11:22

anyone know can you use tea tree oil on it and is it ok for 4 yr olds

BoysAreLikeDogs · 26/02/2010 11:23

please find out first what he has got, yes?

ring the surgery, go on, do it now

aquababe · 26/02/2010 11:30

i've been googling and it says molluscums worse in eczema sufferers so maybe that's where I got fungal from . its a pain to phone the surgery in the morning usually takes 10 mins to get through so will ring for confirmation this afternoon

OK so Doctors have confirmed its molluscum, however Nursery says they disagreee and think its chicken pox so had to go and collect her.

Any one know the distinction.
though i'd have thought a doctors opinion would have sufficed

how long has she had them? If it is over a week then it wont be chicken pox as they would be scabbing and clearing up by now.

PardonMyClench · 26/02/2010 19:53

As other people have said. Molluscum is a pox virus not fungal or treated by anti-biotics. Fungal infection would not be treated by antibiotics. Oter pustular, vesicualr rashes include Hand, foot and mouth - again viral ; chickenpox and other herpes infection- viral ;pomphylox - very itchy and not infectious.

Molluscum tend to have central pits rather than pus.Chickenpox appear in crops - start of looking like red spots that then get pus filled centres then breakdown and scale or scab over .

aquababe · 26/02/2010 20:26

I think I got a bit confused in the doctors. fungal was a word that registered in my brain as I myself have lots of psorasis

With the pustules they all look a bit different. some have indents in the middle but no scab others where she's clearly scratched the heads of have scabs others are little raised circles (almost as raise as a skin tag)I touched one earlier and it exploded wet pus on my hand. sorry for tmi

We've had lots of family stuff on so I haven't been the one changing her. I only saw them on wed evenng, but she said she first got her itchy shoulder on saturday

molluscum doesnt just appear en masse - it develops over a period of time and slowly spreads. They can look like warts/skin tags. When it exploded was it clear fluid or was it sort of white? The core of molluscum is kind of white and cheesy.

aquababe · 27/02/2010 15:13

not really white more clear does that mean it might be chickenpox

Think I'd prefer chicken pox!
