Doc thinks DS2 might have abdominal migraines

Took him to teh doc on Wednesday after (I admit) losing the plot with him on his way to school because he was crying and wailing saying his tummy was sore.
Now on a few seperate occasions he has woken through the ngiht crying saying his tummy was sore,a dn in real agony, on one occasion we had to get doc out.

Anyway, doc said it's either - constipation, or abdominal migraines. He has got medicine to try - the resoning being that if it's constipation the medicine will work and the pain should go. have to take him back next week if no improvement though.

Now I have heard of abdominal migraines as a friend of mine used to get them - right through her late teens and early 20s she still got them. Does anyone else have any experience of them?

Yes - they are grim. Nurofen and lying quietly in a darkened room helps, but it can take 24 - 48 hours to recover.

Dd usually looks very pale, the pain is central, constant - ie not collicky/spasmodic and doesn't have any effect of bladder or bowel function.

Is associated with stress and tiredness, and has strong hereditary association too.

The other thing it could be is adenitis - is it associated with a sore throat or other swollen glands?

If it is constipation the gp should be able to feel the hard faeces in the colon just by feeling his tummy. Also by history of bowel function and whether poos have been regular, recent, hard, soft etc.

Hope you get it sorted out and ds feels better soon.
