How long to let an ill child sleep in the day?

Hello,

Dd1 who is 3 and a half has suspected chickenpox. She was quite bright this morning, but retired to bed at 11am, didn't go to sleep but wasn't interested in doing anything or eating. She got up about 2pm to watch TV but went back to bed and fell asleep about an hour ago.

Am I crazy to worry about how this will affect her night's sleep?

Normally if she drops off in the day, she goes into a very deep sleep and I wake her after only ten mins as otherwise she won't go to sleep until 10pm. Should I just leave her to sleep as she's ill?

personally i would leave her, if she is that ill she may well sleep all night also.

I would leave her.
Hope the poor poppet recovers soon.

I think that is what everybody else in the sane world would do. I am very anxious regarding sleep issues...but that's a whole other thread. Thanks for your reply.

I would leave her too and expect a bad night - sorry.

My 20 month old has d&v and slept from 9 til 12, was awake for about an hour and fell asleep again. He is still asleep now - on the lounge rug!

I will be thinkig of you when we are awake later!

One of the symptoms of chicken pox is extreme malaise. I am sure this is all part of the illness and as other people have said I would leave her to rest. Perhaps wake her around tea time to offer her something to eat and then she could have a couple of hours up and go back to bed.

I hope she feels better soon.

Thanks, you are all v kind. I'm not good as decisions, or being in the house all day and dh is working late tonight, so am feeling quite alone!

Just look at it that you'd probably have a bad night no matter what you did

My dd is poorly at the mo, high temp, laying around, i've been up since 2:30 today and 3:30 yesterday, not going to bother going to bed tonight lol

good luck!
