Anyone want to help me diagnose a rash?

I have put a photo on my profile. It's on DD2's stomach. She is well, no temp but did have her MMR last week. Could it be a result of that?

could be but (i'm not expert) looks like an allergic reaction to me..

luciemule · 23/02/2010 23:11

To me, it looks like a skin reaction to something. Hard to tell but it looks specifically around the navel area; has she been wearing something with nickel in like a belt or jeans with a nickel button?
Has it moved down/up her body or just literally in that one place?

McDreamy · 23/02/2010 23:11

It's right on her nappy line. Still using the same brand nappies, no new washing powder, cream, bubble bath. If it's an allergy any ideas what could be causing it? Just trying to think what she ate yesterday......but if it was food it wouldn't be localised to her tummy would it?

Just in one place with the odd spot going further up towards her chest. Just trying to think what she wore yesterday - that's when it appeared.

there is such a thing as MMR rash - google it. Might be worth call the doc tomorrow anyway to ask for advice?

McDreamy · 23/02/2010 23:16

The nurse did say she might develop a rash post mmr so that's what I immediately thought but now worried that I might be missing something more.

any new clothes? are you sure you haven't got new fabric softener (on your clothes as well as hers)

this is exactly what my stomach looks like when I have new jeans with a non-steel button. am allergic to non-pure metals.
Not saying that's what it is, just saying it looks like an allergic rash.

just to be sure, check with GP tomorrow. Is it blanching>?

crapdoc · 23/02/2010 23:19

looks like fungal infection/dermatitis to me. Pharmacist would give you canesten H or daktacort which would sort it. But if she is off colour prob worth seeing GP?

luciemule · 23/02/2010 23:21

Definitely take her to GP just to be on the safe side. It looks quite red and sore so I'm sure they'll give you something cream-wise to put on it anyway, whatever it is.

McDreamy · 23/02/2010 23:24

Thank you I will see what it looks like in the morning and if it hasn't got any better I will take her to the GP.

it looks like a staph infection to me. Make an appt at the gps as it can get worse very quickly. I would think they might give you some flucloxacillin liquid and some fucidin cream.

McDreamy · 24/02/2010 08:01

I don't think it's a staph infection. There's no obvious wound/impetigo/graze. She is very well and it doesn't seem to be causing her any discomfort at all.

Think I might be sensible to get it checked out though! She's still asleep at the moment so I will see what it looks like this morning. Typical, the week I need DH to be home he's away on a course! Now I need to go and see a real Dr

OP posts:
bobblehat · 24/02/2010 08:14

Could be all sorts, but I'd get her to the docs asap, just to be on the safe side. If it is anything more serious it is so much easier to treat if caught early.

alypaly · 24/02/2010 09:19

is it a sweat rash from the elastic in the nappies or is there no elastic there.

alypaly · 24/02/2010 09:22

actually ........had a closer look...possibly thrush as this is charcterised by small red spots and would ccount for her feeling fine too.

Bumblelion · 24/02/2010 09:44

My son has something like this. It started on his back and has now spread to his tummy. It is called pityriasis rosea - it is not contagious and there is no treatment - picture (not of my son) here

crapdoc · 24/02/2010 12:51

what was the GP's verdict?

McDreamy · 24/02/2010 18:16

Couldn't get an appointment! It's not as red today although still there, still raised but still NOT causing any problems, she is still very well in herself. DH will be home tomorrow so I will let him see what he thinks (he is a GP).

OP posts:
luciemule · 24/02/2010 18:39

Has your DH said what he thinks it could be?

Dysgu · 24/02/2010 19:15

My DD2 who is 14 months old seems to have this rash too - DP has just called me into bathroom to have a look during bath time.

She also had her MMR about 10 days ago and we initially thought it was a reaction to that.

I am going to try to take her to the GP tomorrow to have it checked - but will be checking here to see what your DH thinks of your DC's rash.

DD2 here also seems absolutely fine and rash is not bothering her - is also mostly on her tummy but there seems to be some spots on her legs too.

McDreamy · 24/02/2010 19:18

Oh that's interesting Dysgu. Coincidence that they've both had MMR recently.

DH was pretty non committal about what he thought it could be without seeing it first hand. MMR reaction, allergy. He was more concerned in how it is affecting her and was relieved to hear she is well and not at all bothered by it.

tjacksonpfc · 24/02/2010 20:17

mcdeamy out of interest does the rash feel like sanpaper?

The reason im asking is that my dd had a rash start in excatly the same place about 10 days ago now. Shes 5 so older than your dd.

Ive been using piriton and e45 on her. managed to get a gp appointment yesterday who said its a form of dermatitus and gave us some different cream to use, wouldn't give us a steroid cream as its to widespread on her.

but said if didnt get better in a few days to go back but new cream and piriton do seem to be working.

McDreamy · 25/02/2010 10:37

Not really, I mean it's a raised rash but not rough - if that makes sense. DH not home til tomorrow now but the rash is fading fast. How about your little one's Dysgu?

OP posts:
luciemule · 26/02/2010 22:37

Hi McDreamy - so has the rash faded/disappeared at all and did your DH have a look?

McDreamy · 01/03/2010 16:01

It's really faded now although you can just see it. He did have a look although by the time he saw it there wasn't much to see. He thinks it's fairly likely a reaction to the MMR. I haven't excluded anything from the house/food etc so an allergy is unlikely although I guess time will tell. We hadn't done/eaten anything new last week so I just can't think why she would develop a rash and why on her abdomen.

Dysgu - how is your LO's rash?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts at the time.
