Chicken pox infection

2 yo DD had 3 spots yesterday which I thought may be chicken pox. Took her to GP first thing today, who unhelpfully said they may be, but didnt look typical. A few more spots have appeared over the course of the day and I have asked a couple of friends who think it is, so it probably is CP. Her 4 yo brother hasnt had it, and isnt showing any spots / other signs. Should I assume that he will inevitably get it and is therefore contagious now, or can he continue to go to nursery as normal?? It seems daft to keep a perfectly healthy, active boy at home un-necessarily, but obv don't want to spread it around un-necessarily either!

hmm i am not sure what i would do actually. i think really, as he hasn't had it and could be incubating it then you ought to keep him off.

can i ask where you are though? as i'd like my 2 youngest to get it!

the incubation period is up to 21 days so would you really keep your lo off for that amount of time?? I would send him until he shows signs of getting chicken pox himself.

We has an outbreak of chicken pox at nursery a few years back, every single child who got it, was discovered at nursery, i remember it very well as my room basically was wiped out, the first child i remember particularly well, he had a very high temp, and we had called mum to come get him, as she came in she could see how unwell he was, and i said oh he's got this weird spot on his leg aswell, that was the start of, they started dropping like flies after that, but my point is, all those children were in nursery with chicken pox incubating in them, you can't keep your child of just because they may or may not have chicken pox, just keep an eye out for spots, and keep him off if he does.

It's a hard one. My 3 got them 10 days apart if that helps.

thanks cookielove, good perspective. so if no spots tomorrow then he's going to nursery.

this is yesterday, i'm in hindhead. how old are you kids?

hmm you're a fair way from me, but still...

kids are 2 yrs, and 8 months. I'd probably like to just expose the 2 yr old and then just see if he passes it onto his brother

can you CAT on here?
