DD 4 weeks has been poorly since Tuesday with a cough, losr voice and temp she has been to day unit at hospital and had bloods taken and all ok.

Today her voice has come back and cough subsided but she has started with diahorrea and sickness however seems better in herself than she has all week.

How long would you leave it before seeking medical help?

Has she a temperature?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/02/2010 19:28

I would go tomorrow, but if she gets worse before then I would take her to the out of hours GP. Or maybe even phone the out of hours GP now and ask their opinion?

I hope she's better soon.

Bleenherbe · 21/02/2010 19:28

I would go tomorrow.

Doobydoo · 21/02/2010 19:28

Is she feeding normally?

poppy34 · 21/02/2010 19:28

Take her tomorrow (or ring Nhs direct if too tricky as thy can arrange visits) as she is so young. However if she is feeding ok despite d and v and seems brighter then it may be just the end of the virus(dd had something similar that had ended in nasty upset tummy).

Bleenherbe · 21/02/2010 19:29

Yes, or sooner if she deteriorates. and NHS Direct.

KentuckyFriedPenguin · 21/02/2010 19:30

What is her temp? IS she feeding normally?ow worried are you?

Depending on the answers to those questions i would either go first thing or go to out of hours/ request a home visit.

Rosa · 21/02/2010 19:30

If she is loosing liquids at both ends then I would proabbly call the doc first thing or as suggested the out of hours doc just so you could get peace of mind .

nickytwotimes · 21/02/2010 19:30

Yep, tomorrow definitely.

Very young baby. Could easily and quickly become dehydrated.

Tbh, I'd call out of hours.

geordieminx · 21/02/2010 19:35

I'd ring out of hours now. 4 weeks, very young, very easy to become dehydrated.

Hope she's better soon

mummytopebs · 21/02/2010 20:18

She is feeding ok now better than she has all week but as soon as she finishes has either diahorrea or sickness, i am having to wake her for her feeds so she is obviously not hungry.

Her temp was 38 yesterday with the cough and ost voice but today is around 37.

Iwill definitly take her tomorrow but just wondered about phoning out of hours, dont want to feel like iam wasting there time as this week she has already been seen by a and e, children day unit at hospital and gp

Based on that I would 'phone now or if you are happy to wait till morning go then. You mustn't forget to let them know you are waking her for feeds etc.[hope that dosen't sound bossy]

Doobydoo · 21/02/2010 20:23

Also I know medical people would not consider you wasting their time even if all well,so don't worry on that score. That is what they are there for

nellie12 · 21/02/2010 20:25

definitely phone out of hours now for advice. D&V means that even if she is feeding she is at high risk of clinical dehydration. So please ring doc tonight.

mummytopebs · 21/02/2010 20:58

She has just took a 3oz bottle so i will see if she is sick or has diahorrea after. If she is i will ring nhs direct

Hope she is ok mummytopebs, its such a worry when they are so tiny isn't it

BoffinMum · 21/02/2010 21:23

If she has d and v after every feed and this had been going on for several days I would probably ask for her to be admitted tomorrow, and then see what they say.

BTW if you pinch the skin on her hand does it ping back straight away, or does it take a while to go back? If it's the latter it's apparently one sign of dehydration.

Lulumama · 21/02/2010 21:25

i would seek medical help as she might alos have a temporary lactose intolerance deu to teh bug and milk might carry on making her vomit, i would not hesitat to take medical advice tonight, a 4 week old who's been ill for almost 6 days needs seeing

babies can deteriorate ( and recover) quickly

please seek some help

MrsPixie · 21/02/2010 21:29

She is so young. I would call out of hours immediately -dehydration can set in and is v difficult to see signs in a newborn.

You poor things
