Hello

Having a rough couple of days and I'm after reassurance. Ds has had a sore mouth since Tuesday and he's been right off form, both in his mood and in that he's back to just drinking milk and eating pureed veg. I thought it was thrush at first cos he had a bit of white bloom in his mouth corners and red spots on his bum. We took him to the docs who said keep an eye on it. No more white spots but his mouth is really red and he's eating ice cubes. I've given him pink medicine but he's still grumpy, saying he's hungry and tired, but he won't eat and his sleep is really disturbed.
He's been teething his canines for a couple of weeks and he's drooling for England, not sleeping and eating mush anyway - it just seems worse all of a sudden!
Any ideas?

Ta muchly

It could either be that he is teething or is run down. My little boy has gone off food also, he is drinking, though not alot. Took him to doc. He has a viral infection. Just noticed yesterday morning when he opened his mouth that he has mouth ulcers, rang doc, was told that mouth ulcers/ blisters are due to the immune system being run down. Then, a while later when I was changing his nappy I noticed 4 fangs starting to come through the gum - molar. His nappies have been very very bad and smelly. I put it down to his tummy upset from the viral infec until I noticed he is actually teething. My G.P prescribed steroid pellets to be dissolved on the tongue near to the sores, if that was impossible to do then he said that Difflam Spray sprayed onto the sores would also help with the pain. He also recommended 5ml of Calpol 6yrs plus together with 3ml Nurofen every 4 hours as it is quite strong and it has worked. He just turned 18months. If you dont think this would help your son then maybe you should take him to the doc's again and ask to see a different G.P to see their opinion on the matter. Especially if your son is hungry and asking for food - doesn't seem anything wrong with his appetite ie. like he has a bug or tummy sickness.
