Blisters on dd's genitals

On Wednesday I noticed a small blister on dd's bottom, she also had an itchy vulva and on thursday I saw that she had a blister on her labia and it was really swollen.

This morning she has about 6 blisters around her genitals.
She's got a bit of a cough and runny nose - no noticeable fever though.

Could this be chicken pox? She doesn't seem to have a rash anywhere.

It is probably a virus - possibly hand foot and mouth - which can cause these sorts of rashes around the bottom as well as hand feet and mouth, and the runny nose.

But you should take her to the doctor for a diagnosis, especially as the blister on the genitals is swollen, that sounds like it could be infected.

It could be impetigo. My dd had impetigo here but not quite so bad. Does she go to nursery?

I think chicken pox usually starts on the trunk. If there are none there but loads in her nappy area I would guess not.

I know - on weds it only looked like a little spot so didn't look too closely. It was only when she was itching on thursday that I managed to have a closer look. She's 4 so I rarely look at her genitals as she's pretty good at wiping and washing herself etc.

I know it probably sounded a bit about not going to the docs - we rarely go as dd is rarely ill - and anything she does get usually goes quickly.

Back from the docs - chicken pox confirmed - phew.

Now the challenge of keeping her in for a week!

we have just had it so I sympathise

you can go out, just not to crowded or enclosed places - we went to the park, on picnics, to feed duks etc

Hope she gets better soon, and you are well stocked up on calamine lotion and calpol!
